Description Female Humpback Whale diving. While I cannot determine if the whale is a female the whale specialist on board the Voyager III was able to make the determination.

Humpback whale are easily identified by the unique patterns on their tail flukes.

The humpback whale population has made an incredible recovery in the past 40 years. After nearly becoming extinct, laws enacted to protect the population have allowed the species to recovery. The population world wide is over over 80,000 strong and containing to recover.

Photo taken from the Voyager III whale watching cruise out of Boston, MA.

It was, and I would gladly do it again. I was hoping for some breaching behavior, but they weren't in the mood that day.

Thanks! It's hard with whales because you need to anticipate where they're coming from.
