Description This is what Valentines Day means to me [link] I did this on my foundation course at Maidstone college when I was about 19 it was well over 10 ft and part of a series of huge paintings(this was done with Emulsion)this is just a excerpt there was about 7 or 8 big paintings which covered the walls of a gallery .. I got the idea seeing Roy Lichensteins work and thinking I'd like to tell a story at huge scale in a expressive manner(Lichensteins panels are Iconic in there almost factory like precison which is typical of the process of making comics in that era .. I wanted to go in the other direction) anyhow this is just a example for a better idea of what I did with these huge pics check out [link] (these are the black and white ones I did prior to this one which I prefer)

Girl (eyeing ganster carefully): Will you be my Valentine?
She eyes him again.
Girl: Better not.
She takes out big gun and shots him dead.
Girl: Hell, I need no men....

Funnily enough that's what Valentine's means to me too... studied America in the 20s/30s for GCSE history... which was fun...

Yeah I liked studying history at GCSE second time around first time around we studied Ecomonic History and the Industrial Revolution something I feel no connection to at all plus I had a total prat as a teacher so I didnt pass it , but I did it second time around at college on 20th century which i'm totally fascinated with since I was about 4 so it was far more interesting and relative to me . What scares me is that my nephews dont take a interest in it , its just a subject therefore its borring but i figure if you know your history you dont get fooled by people in power a sense of historys vital, because you dont want people to make the same mistakes as there predacessors

I think that's the only descision I regret making - not taking history at Alevel. Stupid teachers telling me that art graphics and photography were a good bundle . I dropped photography 2 weeks before the exam because the teacher is hopeless.
Matt's quite obsessed with history and is determined to do the alevel, which can only be good .

I wouldn't take it that far though more of interest than a degree thing ..mind you it helps to know a fair bit about it if your a illustrator .sometimes you got to do alot of research , much like a writer would cept you got to get it visually right

reminds me of a christmas card this guy did he wanted to get out of greetings cards so he did a camel in a nativity scene having a crap he was fired but he showed us the card at a lecture it was done very subtly though arc:

Hmmm, why eould that be important for a Christmas card? People reading between the lines would think the message was Christmas was just a bunch of crap. In this instance, I'd side with the boss, there was nothing of value in that element for any card for the general public.

The thing is he got sacked but went onto greater things, guess he felt trapped illustrating what his boss required still it could of worked against him at the same time.I wonder what would of happened if Robert Crumb stayed in the Greetings cards buisness

I did these at lightning speed its not my greatest piece but i do like the energy i had back in those day's and i liked smothering wallspace.. I was meant to be a quaint little illustrator that did etchings in a sketchbook ..my objective was to show if a ideas big it should be physically big back then
