I have no idea but the city itself is located in a mountainous area. I just joined a tour group and had the tour guide drive me there.
I believe the place where I took this shot is called Wulingyuan and if I remember correctly it was a rather short drive from the city.

thank you anyways for giving me a location, i have always been fascinated by this kind of mountains and i would love to be able to see it for myself one day. helps to know a few locations

It's not easy traveling in China if you don't speak the language since few of them speak English there even at  famous tourist attractions. I am sure there are travel agencies that have english speaking tour guides but I am sure they are rather expensive. The safest and best way to see those kind of places is to have friends who speak their language. Well in my case I had to rely on my relatives since my Mandarin is really rusty

thanks for the advice!
this trip lies far in the future, and i would very much like to learn mandarin. so hopefully, these two plans will merge or i'll just have to befriend someone who speaks the language and bring them with me
