As far as California is concerned, the ruling upheld the decision of former district court Judge R. Vaughn Walker, who in 2010 ruled that Prop 8 was unconstitutional. With the appeals panel's blessing, Prop 8 looks to be overturned, unless opponents of same-sex marriage decide to file another appeal with the U.S. court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit Court, or the U.S. Supreme Court.

MINNESOTA expects to have a referendum on a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage on the ballot by November. Same-sex marriage is already prohibited by statute in the state.
NORTH CAROLINA Is going through the same process as Minnesota, but is planning on going further by having the amendment prohibit civil unions and domestic partnerships.
MAINE has a bill making it's way through the state legislature that would legalize same-sex marriage.
COLORADO could vote on civil unions in the state this year.

It seems like for every positive gain, we have another loss as is noted in Minnesota and North Carolina. To actually go on record discriminating against people seems like something out of a worst case scenario. Something that will have to be answered by another court and another judge, no doubt.
