Description
Silver, dazzling moonlight poured into the clearing. Unrestrained, soft rays illuminated the rocky, snow-packed camp, causing the ground to shimmer, brilliant enough to drive any sane cat a little bit crazy. The reflected shine detailed the other's smooth, grey face with excruciating, pinpoint accuracy, forbidding him from eluding wet, anguished tears forming beneath those deep, green eyes he had once been so transfixed with.
"You're really sure about this?" Her voice quivered, shaking as she spoke, eyes blinking back the salty water that edged the rims. "Kits need their parents for guidance. It's tragic enough considering.. Her, but if you up and leave too.. There's no saying how they'll be affected.." She didn't miss his flinch at the mention of Her, and she appeared even guiltier and uncomfortable, shifting on her paws, undetermined and torn between whether or not she should embrace her old friend.
After a moments hesitation to recollect himself from his previous falter, he took an unsure step backwards. "No, kits need their mothers. They have no use for a deadbeat father like myself." The words tasted rancid on his tongue; he spat them like venom. "Besides, I doubt they're old enough to even understand who I am or what is happening."
She regarded him somberly. "Nettle.." Confliction raged behind those jade eyes as she realized no matter how she struggled, this was a hopeless battle with its outcome already decided. Her paws were still shuffling as though she still wanted to cling to his side, though they continued to march in place, rooted to that exact spot. At last she let her paws rest, opting to bite her bottom lip instead. "They understand more than you're accrediting them, Nettle." the petite, grey she-cat reminded, her voice ominously quiet and hoarse, taking on an almost foreboding and chilling tone especially coming from an usually upbeat, matriarch figure.
He was shaking he realized with a little surprise. The past few sunrises since the kitting had been especially rough, and those stressful days and nights were finally catching up to him. Despite his will, his body would not stop shaking. "I know that." he squeezed his eyes shut. "I know that, but just. .It's best this way. For them, for me.." Hesitantly, he opened his eyes, shocked at the moisture that threatened to stream from his eyes too. Before the tears spilled, he stiffly turned away from his best friend.
"Good bye, Kite."
----------
The nursery was warm and comfortable, though it helped when there were fire other furry masses to snuggle and share body heat with. An abrupt, unwarranted kick to the nose was the only downside to sleeping in a huddle of kittens. Larkkit awoke with a cringe, and she --affectionately-- nudged her personal space-intruding sibling off her. In the dark of night, it was hard to distinguish which of brothers or sisters was the one sitting on top of her (her sleepy, fuzzy vision wasn't helping the cause either!). Though their eyes had only been open a few days, Larkkit felt it safe to bet that the petite, black-furred mass that had crushed her belonged to Pebblekit.
With a yawn, Larkkit sat up in the crowded nest and blinked heavy, blue eyes. Despite the circumstances that had roused her, the kitten smiled fondly at her clustered together littermates. Her ears perked at a crunch that came from behind, and she felt eyes trained on her back. She twisted her head to see who was visiting at this hour.
Several feet from her and her sibling's nest waited a fluffy Siamese Tom with deep blue eyes, identical to the watery hue her brother Frostedkit had. The grown warrior lingered at the entrance of the nursery, not quite in but not fully out either. Since the stranger dawdled in the entryway, the moss overhang that shielded against the winds was displaced, and a single chilly gust wafted into the milky den. Larkkit shuddered at the cold, but ascended to her wobbly paws, starting towards the visitor.
Immediately, the Siamese warrior noticed her approach, and those too blue eyes widened to round, petrified disks. Though he looked ready to fall over, the Tom retreated backwards a step, the moss dropping back into place and covering over one of his terrified eyes.
Larkkit beat her blue eyes and cocked her head, shooting him a wordless question. Upon closer inspection, the she-kit started to recognize the stranger. A few days prior, a chatty, friendly denmate of hers (Crookedkit, if she recalled correctly) had dubbed the Siamese as "Nettlenose," or for them, father. After having him pointed out, Larkkit began to notice that Nettlenose often stared at her and her siblings from across the clearing, never once approaching them or coming into the nursery to visit them.
For some confound reason, that caused Larkkit's chest to ache. Yewflight frequently dropped by to play with his kits, so why wouldn't her father even come and talk to her and her littermates.. Did it have something to do with the fact that their mother wasn't around?
"Um, hi," She piped in her pitched voice. "Won't you come in, please?" Her heart thumped rapidly, anticipating his answer, hoping, desperately, that he might accept her invitation. Nettlenose didn't budge a whisker, though his ears drooped and he looked away, his lip quivering.
Larkkit held her breath.
But, the Siamese just violently shook his head. He hastily clambered to his feet and fled, but not before Larkkit caught one last glimpse of those wide panicked, blue eyes.
It only took a moment for the warrior to escape her vision, and Larkkit exhaled her breath when she was alone again. A feeling dully simmered within her chest, though she couldn't quite name it.
Disappontment..?
Or maybe even apprehension. Through some unexplainable force, Larkkit just knew that she would never see the Siamese, Nettlenose, her father, again. Perhaps it was those impossibly deep sad, sad blue eyes that clued her in.
The striped kitten shrugged lightly and returned to the nest she shared with her littermates. Though she was nestled between her siblings, Larkkit couldn't help the hollow, empty hole within her heart. Sleepiness left her head fuzzy, but come morning she'd realize the full extent of her father's action.
For now she slept, dreams plagued over the mother she had never met and the father who always had his back turned.
Within her subconscious, she wondered had her mother survived, would they have been a happy family?
----------
Panic
Pure terror washed over every inch of his body, and he followed the primal instinct that urged him to run.
FLEE!
His mind was an utter mess, a collection of unorganized racing thoughts. He saw the small kit --his daughter-- the one with piercing ice-blue eyes the same hue as her late grandmother's. She spoke to him, invited him in, but he couldn't do that. ..
Couldn't or wouldn't?
A pathetic whimper escaped his throat, but he kept running, running until he reached the stream that bordered the forest, and running even past that, towards the Dawn.
He had to escape, but there was one last cat he needed to see before he could be free.

Don't hate me ; v ; This is all Panic's fault !! With Moth out of the picture, Nettle couldn't cope and stand up to the pressure of raising six kits on his own.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
...
Oh, yea, this is an overdue submission. Originally it was to be released New Years day, so it woulda been bam bam pam Moth dead, Nettle gone. Still, it's written as though the kits were only about a week and a few days old. That's why none of the kits' personalities should be too overly bitter and hateful about being orphans (none of them actually knew either of their parents! Aside from Bubble, that is.)
Though, through this brief meeting with Nettlenose, I am going to have him impact Lark's character and personality slightly. She is somewhat skeptical of romantic relationships, and takes a little bit longer to warm up to Toms particularly.
But, Nettles has just one more stop to make before he's gone completely. Wonder who it could be ~?
Concerning roleplays with Nettle, any ongoing ones may be completed, but I won't be starting any new ones with him --for obvious reasons--
(Though, Kimchiitazztic , since we've been meaning to do a NettleBubble rp. I'll make an exception in that case).

Erm, no, i will mend your broken heart through Lark. Just watch the poor bab grow up and be inspired and happy.
Yea! That would definitely be alright that was my thought process all along kind of, since Panic and I knew from the start that they'd be orphaned. So we waited til there was a queen around the same time~ But, still, thanks! I don't know what kind of bond Lark would have with Furrow (or her litter) but she would definitely feel gratitude (if not anything more familiar-like)

Nettles is unbelievably complex. Given his circumstances you want to feel bad for the guy, but its not a proper excuse for what hes down to his kits. So even though he's a 'nice guy' his personality is weak and fragile
