Description
Twinbee and its pilot Light, from the Twinbee series (C) Konami.This is another series that rarely comes out of Japan. The first time I heard of it was when Pop'n Twinbee: Rainbow Bell Adventures came out on the SNES in Europe (not the U.S., if I understand correctly). I had no idea it was an overhead shooter series before it was a platformer back in the day.
Twinbee also shows up regularly as a playable character in the Parodius series.

Twinbee's like my another favourite character next to Kirby. Man, I'm so sad they don't continue this series anymore, but I still like this guy fondly. Great to see you paired him with Light!
The best game in the series might be Yahhoo!, but Pop'n Twinbee also holds up very well. Same for Detana which is inbetween Pop'n and Yahhoo!

I really wanted to get Light in there as well. The human characters don't get seen as much, and when they do it's usually Pastel who gets the spotlight.

Ah, Pastel. The so called "Poster Girl" of the series. Though I can see it, Light seems bit too generic for people anyway. Pastel had more character (and maybe attraction) around her which might've helped her gain popularity.

That and she's a girl. Konami doesn't have a huge number of female protagonists. Unless you count Evil Rose, who seems to be showing up in a lot of Konami crossover games these days.

Man, Rainbow Bell Adventures was an amazing game! I won a few of the games but don't know much about their elusive RPG...
Anyway I like the way that, despite the "deformed" style, their proportions to each other as ship/pilot actually make sense! Unlike most of the official art and in game images which show the ships as much smaller, almost Sonicesque height.

I managed to find one picture that showed the ships and people at the right scale, but you're right - they're not easy to find! I do like Rainbow Bell Adventures. It's very similar to the Sparkster games actually - another Konami hero I may have to draw

I'm not even sure Light was introduced until the later games. Twinbee is the main character really. The easiest one to try out is 3D Classics: Twinbee on 3DS.
