Description OH NO it's a wall of text!

Greetings dear beautiful readers. Your face looks lovely. Today is lazy and below is a scramble of stuff. Maude is not entirely solidified as a character but this is how she is so far. Yesss I am aware the comic is cheesy, it's meant to be.

Cambions are born from a demon mating with a human. This is often an inccubus and a human (or subhuman) woman who gives birth to the child after being inpregnated in a dream (since demons exist in the under-realm and cannot materialise in the middle realm without a host). True bloods (non-magical beings) see cambions as disgusting and dangerous creatures who are exiled and eradicated from society because of their demonic origins. Cambions are essentially seen as demons who have a material form in the middle realm. Although their blood is still red like a True's. Despite the fear, cambions are far less powerful than demons, they have claws, fangs, an affinity for darkness (...they can see in the dark) and most notably they take the ability of being immune to magic. Cambions will vary in appearance depending on their parents and type of demon their parent was. Maude's parents were both cambions who were exiled and found each other in the wilderlands.

Demons are not to be confused with spectres. Spectres are immaterial remants of the soul which are unable to seperate themselves from the middle realm because their death has been traumatic. They will wander the middle realm trying to seek a resolution for the events that caused their death. They can possess objects or living creatures but require permission to do so (like demons). Ghosts can be seen under certain conditions (such as in the area they died at the time of day they died) but cannot touch anything. There are two types of spectres: ghosts, and wraiths. Ghosts are more sombre and prefer to watch- these most commonly have died from suicide. Wraiths are hateful and like to use hosts to get revenge- these most commonly have died from murder.

On the other hand demons are formed from the souls of those who have done significant evil in their life. The under-realm is so hot that souls are torn apart and must constantly hold themselves together. Given a material form this results in immense pain as they struggle to even hold the form together and fills demons with hate and a great desire to escape from the torture. The more time spent holding themselves together the more powerful they grow as they become accustomed to it. But they grow jealous of the easy and complex life in the middle realm.

Maude Ethne was born into her exiled family, always living in the wilderlands. Her parents and siblings would take it in turns to hunt on lords' land or to steal from human villages. Maude was too young to go on any trips to human villages and was always told how cruel they were but was unsure of what to believe because she had never seen one. Maude's parents had the (wish granting) BURNNING CHALICE which they had stolen from a human woman. They were going to use it to overthrow (or kill) all of the monarchy in Elbion because they believed this would liberate their kind to be accepted. They were constantly on the move following a map to find the dissapearing lake (where the chalice had to be drank from in order to grant the wish).

Due to some events I can't discuss, Maude was left to fend for herself at the age of 12(?) with nothing except the Chalice and a tremendous hatred for humans and herself. The only goal she saw in life was to continue the mission her family had intended for the Chalice and to kill any Royals she could. Although she only had the Chalice and no map so she had to retrieve the map after pulling herself together. Maude spent time to teach herself how to hunt, she particularly enjoyed fishing. She would hunt with her claws or a spear and ate what she caught raw, she would sleep in trees or cliff side caves which were easy to climb to. She was constantly depressed and alone, she wanted a way to cure this unhappiness so she started to make elixirs out of plants that she called 'happy potions'. This started her journey into the realm of 'chemistry' whence she later learned to make poisons and explosives which she used to kill fish, along with dyes, crude aesthetics, preservatives, flavourings, and soaps. Her loneliness and the danger of monsters lead her to wander into human villages wearing a cloth disguise. People were very suspicious and frightened of her because she never showed her face, this made it difficult to get jobs. She started stealing to get food and luxury items. She tried to sell her chemistry inventions but no one would buy them because she was an outsider with a disguise. She decided to appeal to the black market that didn't mind disguises and made up lies about the properties of common objects she found (that they were magical or such) to sell them to obtuse customers. Lying and fabricating stories became a second nature. Although once people found out she had lied they often came after her.

Maude hates humans and believes they are all violent and power hungry. She is easily envious of those born into a privileged life because she has had to deal with exile. She is distrusting and angry. She has self-hate issues which stem from guilt for events earlier in her childhood and often blames herself when things go wrong. She has also worn her disguise for so long that she is afraid to accept herself outside it. She is also lazy and does not like violence, she would rather run away and preserve herself or use her mouth to get out of the situation by making false threats. Maude often feels a need to prove herself; that she is capable and more than what society thinks of her. She is paranoid that everyone she meets will betray her but she craves attention and loves affection. She is greedy (especially for food) and sees herself and the chalice as the only things to preserve (despite hating the chalice). Maude might be pessimistic, but she's pretty confident and tries to cheer herself up and make fun out of situations with humour. She is fond of using nicknames and poking fun at people.

Maude is a character who thinks a lot about the past and she is unable to let things go and move on. This is also the reason she can hold grudges for so long and struggles with forgiveness (she does petty things such as collecting Royal symbols and burning them to make herself feel better).  She longs for a family (friends) like the one she lost but is unable to make any connections and believes she never will.

Maude (warrior.... and used to be a presenter I watched-- shaddup) Ethne (fire). Fire is ironically the method used to kill cambions, it's used to mimic the heat of the under-realm.

Speaking of the under-realm- it's the only realm that is evidently existent (apart from the middle realm and small magic realms that spellcasters and monsters can make). Although all of this is believed confidently by society. The over-realm is the place where all souls who have enlightened themselves completely go. It's where, if there are any- the gods exist. It's ice cold but makes souls feel fulfilled, they can choose any form they wish. Usually humans think that it's reserved for royalty. The most common occurrence after death is reincarnation- where the soul takes a new form wiping all previous memories and any personality. Although the True in Hellebore kingdom refuse to believe that they can be reborn as monsters (magical beings).

On the subject of monsters: monsters are born with (blue) magic inside them which turns their blood blue. The magic will mutate them so they become powerful. Eating other monsters will often cause the two magic types to clash and will hurt or even poison a monster, so they will more often eat True. Spellcasters are humans who learn grey magic which is magic that is casted outside of the body. Black/dark magic is a type of magic that involves demons.

I finally have the time to sit down and read this asdlfksdl

I really, really love the lore and world building you have going! I never knew there was such an extensive, rich world in this comic, you've kept it all under wraps for so long xD
I am very fascinated by the different races you've mentioned so far, especially the cambions and the difference between them and real demons; I really like how the different realms aren't all readily accessible by everyone and some seems to be more 'believed to exist' than being physically, visually 'there' (kinda reminds me of our real world, in a way lol with the different belief systems and the saying that there is an 'afterlife' even if there's no scientific proof of it).

Are the cambions able to use magic if their blood is red? Or are they limited to grey magic IF they do magic at all? And being immune to all magic sounds like such a cool trait; I imagine a group of well-trained cambion soldiers would be the best defense against a hoard of magical monsters! Too bad the Trues can't put aside their discrimination for this though :'D

When demons inpregnate humans, do they have to take on a host, or is it just in the dream itself and the human becomes with child? Are there defenses that humans can elect against this? What's stopping the demons from, in a bout of hatred/spite/jealousy, going on a spree of creating a whole slew of cambion children just to wreck havoc and chaos in the middle realm? Can a demon inpregnate a cambion? Also, can a succubus and human male also produce a cambion? If a cambion and a human have a child, would the child still be a cambion? (I'm so sorry for the barrage of questions, I find all these world settings fascinating :'D)

I really like Maude's characterization! She's so believable and 'alive'! She sounds like she has had a tough childhood growing up, and could really use some companionship lol I would love to see her interactions with the rest of the cast when they finally do meet x3

sdajdaosaofs thanks for reading it, this was such a crap dump. XD I'm so embarrassed.

Thank you, I'm sooo lazy doing this all so slow. I actually got the cambions from wikipedia, I really just use a lot of ideas I read since the comic is a fantasy medieval world and Elbion is basically just fantasy England with different culture. Yeah I do think about the death theme because I want it to be uncertain, characters would question where they were going on death. But Elbion would also be religious in a pseudo-christian way which would lay out a moral system and Paganish for people who don't live in big cities. Though the higher-ups also make their own religion or manipulate one to control people to do what they want (Aka, King Odiar alters religion and makes his own by saying he's literally a God so people go to shrines to worship him, then he starts to really believe that he is a God) thus there is the belief that Royals are related to Gods. But no one has ever seen a God so it can't be disproven. And the actual Gods want nothing to do with the human rabble anyway. Although I really don't want to touch all the Gods and religion and stuff because that's not what the story is about, but given that England in history was so christian I feel like there needs to be something there so I go for the heaven/hell type of dealy. Plus that lets me add demons in which I can use for a dark magic trope. Cliche, I have no imagination.

Cambions don't use any magic at all. They can't even learn (cast) grey magic like a True human could. They're directly immune to it, but you could still use magic indirectly on them (like topple a tree onto them).

The impregnation is just in a dream. And demons can't do anything without permission from the human, they'd have to ask to enter the dream as well. The human would also probably have to create a link with the Under-Realm somehow, which might be accidental(cursed by someone else) or purposeful(curse themselves or do something 'evil'). And O_o I never thought of a demon impregnating a cambion, I think cambions would be immune to letting a demon enter their dream in the first place because they use dark magic to do that. And a succubus and a human male wouldn't create a cambion, or they could but it would die immediately because if it managed to be born then that would be into the Under-Realm where its soul and body would get shredded by the fires, normally it would just die after conception though as soon as the succubus left the male human's headspace went back to the Under-Realm. And if a cambion and a human had a child.. then I don't know. Maybe it would be a hybrid and it would be sterile... Though most demons are technically human and cambions are more human than demons, so it might just make a weird human baby.. Or a cambion. O_o I don't know about that one.

Aww thanks for the questions, you make me think. I'm really lazy I need to get on the story again, I put it aside for so long. Bluh, I just have other stuff going on.

Ohhh I didn't know cambions were a thing! I need to look it up xD
King Odiar alters religion and makes his own by saying he's literally a God so people go to shrines to worship him, then he starts to really believe that he is a GodLOL I can see exactly how this works; wasn't there that country that I shouldn't name that still does this even nowadays? XD Ahhh so relateable; I love it when stories have situations that you can see playing out IRL. It makes it very believable.

And the actual Gods want nothing to do with the human rabble anyway^gods so done with all the human BS LOL

OOoo so does that mean cambions have better physical prowess (claws, fangs, night vision, etc), but aren't in a sense actually more powerful than humans due to their innate inability to learn grey magic? Still having magic cast on things around you but not on you directly would mean you can still get hurt, but healing magic would probably be useless on you, yes?

And that actually surprised me, about the demon needing permission from the humans; I kept thinking along the idea of those night-visitations in most folklore of demons raping sleeping victims, so the idea of them actually needing permission before they can do anything actually caught me off guard. But why would humans actively want to allow this though? (besides the accidental occurances) Are cambion children useful for evil purposes perhaps?

And yeahh I totally get you :'D I'm also lazy lately and been putting off a lot of stuff Orz

Yup the things we learn.

Hmmm I think I know which country you are speaking of.. But I'm not a mind reader. It is common though.

Who would want to deal with humans? Too much drama. They're nice to watch from afar or to leave alone. LOL They start expecting stuff from you.

Yes that's right, healing magic would be useless, and things like magic fire, levitation. Cambions are really good at climbing with their claws which humans are not as good as obviously.

Most of them don't allow it which is why there's not a lot of cambions. I think some humans(and subhumans) might just be attracted and summon a demon repeatedly or be seduced by the demon's words (who obviously wants the child and convinces them its a good idea). Minor curses are pretty easy dark magic and people are doing it all the time too. Shady dealers sell stuff like curse sticks, which if you hate your neighbour you'd buy one, write their name on it and hide it under their window in hopes that something bad happens to them (but the sticks are really weak so nothing life-threatening will happen). If you want some really powerful curse then you'd see a witch who is a special type of monster and would probably eat you first if you went there with no weapons, you'd have to make her a questionable deal like giving her your child (so she can eat it) unless she thought you weren't completely worthless. Though not all witches like eating baby hominids but they have that kind of culture among themselves. Humans can be pretty good at dark magic but they have to do some really messed up stuff to get results (causing pain with an object, harvesting organs etc.). Cursing and black magic is like drugs but not really, I mean that people know it's bad and society says its bad but they still do it.

;_; Sameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Where are your dA posts.

LOLOL I am very fond of the idea of shady dealers selling shady black magic sticks x'DDDD
And gosh, does the child-as-payment come before or after she does your bidding? I love these ideas though! Makes me think of those traditional folklore where you make those deals with your 'first born child', and then some interesting things happen (like some magic battles or verbal riddle battles or even monster slaying) when the person doesn't pay up :'D Poor witches/monsters/goblins, they always get the short end of the stick LOL

Makes me wonder, do humans taste good if they are adults? To the witches I mean LOL I wonder if someone ever promises things like "I will lure unsuspecting humans to you so you can eat them", and then goes to lure the enemy they want to get rid of; in a way it's win/win LOL

I'm still working on IRL stuff in my workshop-
Well, not really, more like waiting on some items to arrive; coz you make something, realize something else is still missing, then you make an order and start waiting, then it arrives and you make something again, and realize you need something else- that's pretty much what's happening atm for me x'D though I think I can start on the next project since my thing JUST arrived today. Though I realllllly should get my computer repaired; I haven't shut it off in almost 3 weeks now I think? LOL

Fruffers In reply to kuroya-ken [2018-09-27 17:32:00 +0000 UTC]

Depends on the witch I guess, they don't have a set way of dealing. They just deal however they want depending on how they act. Black Annis (Ann/Anna) is the main witch that will appear in the story, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_An… . I'm really inspired by the three Crones in The Witcher, they were so nasty and an awesome threat so I wanted to make my witches horrible like that, plus the Black Annis myth is really interesting and the character design opportunity (a blue face and long arms and talons and iron claws) is very nice. There's a coven of witches that meet up at an abandoned tower on a cliff by the sea, and there they feast and plot the things they want to do to gain more influence (like own a forest section by removing the monsters that are more powerful than them or invading human hunting grounds). Though Ann isn't really fond of the coven because she prefers to do her own thing and doesn't like endangering herself with the big plots (moving into human territory). And omg I love riddle battles, makes me think of the hobbit.  And yeah those 'first born child' has been in a deal and he kills stuff to get out of the deal are such fun stories, I love those.

Adults taste good but it's kind of like the eating mutton instead of lamb. And yeah haha that would be a clever idea, though they'd have to convince the witch that she was getting something better than if she just ate them there.

Damn that sucks. What kind of project are you working on? And why have you left your computer on for 3 weeks? O_o That's not good.

kuroya-ken In reply to Fruffers [2018-09-28 08:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Ooooo the witches in your stories sound so sinister and scary, I love it! xD The witches I'm used to IRL are just normal everyday folk so this is quite a change LOL

I love mutton though LOL also for some odd reason I never paid much attention to the difference between mutton and lamb; I think it might be because it's mostly mutton(curry) over here, and you only get lambchops if you go to fancy restaurants xD I gotta pay more attention next time!

I'm still making rings LOL just lots of experimenting going on really. I made my first test ring the other day and wasn't quite satisfied with it, so I want to make a 2nd one and try new techniques.

I left my computer on for 3 weeks for this reason :'D
If I turned it off it won't come on; so I dare not turn it off. Not until I'm ready to send it in for repairs (which I'm procrastinating to do coz there's always something else I still want to do); I was supposed to send it in a while ago, but then things keep coming up and I want to keep the computer around for a bit more, so it's still running LOL

Oh right yes of course, you mean like wicca followers? I don't mean to offend anyone by using the term 'witches' I guess I could change it.

Yeahh I honestly don't know the difference very well either. Apparently mutton is stronger tasting.

Ahh that's cool, I'd love to see them.

I missed that journal, too many notes in my inbox. That sucks, computer problems are really stressful. My computer had a problem when I first got it in that it wouldn't turn on after a few days because I didn't properly set the bios and just ignored it. XD Lazy dumb ass. But I called tech and they told me to physically resit the RAM or the bios which I did and put in default bios settings and that fixed it. Your problem is obviously more complicated. It must be such a pain sending your computer in to tech repair.

I guessssssss you can sort of say that? Though I actually meant just witches x'D (coz not all witches are wiccan, in fact quite a lot of them aren't; Wicca is just a single branch under the wide umbrella of paganism, so I guess the closest example I can think of is like how if someone considers themselves religious, it doesn't mean they are automatically Christian; they can be Buddhist or Muslim or any other religion, if that makes sense?)

Oh, well in that case I think I might actually prefer mutton LOL (maybe there exists witches that like the stronger game-y taste of grown humans LOL)

Unfortunately yeah, this isn't a new problem so I know what is probably causing it :'D Had this happen before; they're going to have to order a brand new part down from their headquarters again so it will take a while to fix.

Fruffers In reply to kuroya-ken [2018-09-28 11:24:05 +0000 UTC]

I know that pagan is an umbrella term. Though I wasn't really aware there were people who called themselves witches apart from Wiccans, the traditional old european witches, and maybe some smaller groups. I read now that you get those with neopagan beliefs and druids are also into witchcraft, probably tonnes of others. If that term would offend people then I'll just call them hags instead.

Yeah I think so. No one really likes the same thing. Apples and oranges, but a bit more sinister.

Damn that sucks, do you have to pay for this or do you have a warranty?

kuroya-ken In reply to Fruffers [2018-09-28 12:26:26 +0000 UTC]

Nahhh I don't think anyone would be offended tbh, it's like such a widely used term and witches are so commonly depicted as villains in movies and stories anyway that I doubt anyone would have a problem with it, even witches themselves x'D (and you actually know one without knowing they are one ;D we have one in our circle of friends who is one, who isn't under the wiccan branch; I can tell you over discord since it's not a secret)

And nope! I don't have to pay, still under warranty :>

Yeah true, though my terms are a bit rough between witches and spellcasters. I only really know 3 people who share relations with both of us and only one of which I know well, I wouldn't be surprised if any of them was a witch. I don't mind, but I don't want to know personal information unless the person themselves permits it.

Ahh that's lucky! Computer repairs are so expensive.
