Theme: Dragons are Not Evil.

Dear Journal,
Today I was passing through the dense forest of Grandoon, when I came across the most unlikely of sights. It was Frost who first alerted me to the presence of a dragon, so I came on quietly as to not startle the beast. In the silence, I happened to notice the birdsong going on about me, and I thought that strange, for wouldn't the birds have flown away in fright?
Then I saw him, a huge creature with horns cluster on his chin, and ivory teeth glinting in the light. I tell you now that my heart missed a beat, for here was the dragon of the forest, known by the name of Curchlak the Killer. The villages were highly frightened of this particular dragon and even left gifts of goats out on stakes as to appease his hunger.
And yet, here he was. A peaceful giant swaying to the ditty of a small songbird. It warmed me to my toes, and I found myself swaying as well.
A long time pasted before I left the two unlikely friends to their sunbathing and went back to the village. I began asking around, and to my surprise the villagers had never actually been in a fight with Curchlak. They had just assumed he was an evil beast who sought their blood. I explained to them this was not the case, but very few believed my words. That night, I gather the elders, and as much of the villages as I could to the forests edge, and put on a show of magic. It was simple magic like fireworks and such.
After my store of energy was drained, I asked them to give me a show in return, by singing their folklore. The adults were surprised by my request, but the children happily agreed anxious to show off there culture.
The bonfire was lit and they danced for me an ancient hymn. I danced along of course, and before long there came out of the night a beast of enormous proportion. It was Curchlak in all of his glory, great copper wings, reg tipped scales, and ebony claws. The children ran for cover, and adults ran as well. All except me, and Frost of course.
I took one of the children's drums and began to beat a simple tune. (I am not a master musician.) The huge beast began to bob his head, and stayed a respectful distance from me. Then there came forth a few young villagers, and each drummed a beat as well. This excited the dragon who prummed loudly, and even stomped his feet to the beat.
I guess there is not much else to tell you, except maybe that the villagers now have a new tradition. Every full moon, the village is gathered and they sing a song into the night to call the great dragon, who is now called Curchlak the Protecter.

This was a journal entry I wrote nearly five months ago. I have been watching numerous dragons since then, and have found that large dragons will will rarely eat small animals. My guess is that it would be rather a waste of time on their part. So for those of you who think dragons are evil, I must disagree. Of course they are still wild beasts, so I wouldn't waltz up to one and give it a hug... but show them respect, and they will return that respect.

This drawing was done with pencils shades from 4h to 9b. Other tools used where: Kneadable eraser, electric eraser, paper stumps, and a fixative spray.  Took me a long time, but so worth it!
I have just been granted access to a Epson coping machine so I can now scan my pictures yay!

The story in the description is very entertaining just like all the music is to the dragon.  Felicity Jones's extensive study of dragons is evident, and I know as well as she does that if you respect a dragon, "they will return that respect."

Thank you! I wanted to make it look a little gnarly to add the contrast of beast and bird.
