Lessi quel brano tempo addietro e lo rileggo tutt'ora, ancora mi commuovo di fronte ad una descrizione così umana della guerra, dove il soldato viene visto oltre la sua parte per quello che in realtà è, un semplice civile della stessa barca che, fosse un tempo di pace, sarebbe un amico. Mi viene quasi da piangere per la riflessività di questo brano, e il suo messaggio vale molto di più di un messaggio sulla guerra: se Gerard Duval fosse una persona con cui litighiamo caldamente online, se fosse una persona che ci sta sulle palle anche se non la conosciamo? Si, anche lui potrebbe esserlo.
