Juvi night heron, but it's in it's first year. Usually they are more brown than gray, so this may be a trick of the lighting or a local color morph. And yes, they always look pleased with themselves. The end of the second year he should have a full set of adult plumage.

No problem. I have a Black Capped Night Heron that I've watched grow from just a little tyke. We are quite used to one another now, and I can get very close. ^_^

My first impressions is a juvenile yellow- or black-crowned night heron - but it looks very light. Both have the orange eyes and same patterns (the browns are darker) - could be a lighter morph though?
