Let's not forget that Celestia and Luna may not be the VERY first rulers of Equestria and "Banished for 1,000 years" may mean "Got a single dorm room for 4-6 years, but it felt very lonely".

It's also tradition to marry someone of another royal or noble lineage as a royal, as marriage at that level is seen more as a peace agreement between nations than as an affair of the heart. Although there may have been a comic series where Celestia's coltfriend was King Sombra from an alternate universe.

In contemporary monarchies, the monarch is supposed to act neutral and act on the people's behalf. Queen Elizabeth II (at least up until recently) may seem to have been doing a good job at that, no?

Oddly enough its hard to tell. By and large we don't see the Princess's actually doing much of anything in the show. Public appearances, ribbon cutting, garden parties. But ruling? No, Celestia and Luna almost seem to be figureheads that rarely exercise power.

You know the thing is that...it's only speculation of the fans that assumed that Alicorn status had to be earned. Cadence earning her horn only confirmed that this status could be earned by any pony just unicorns, since Cadence was originally a pegasus and it's implied (in the journal of the two sisters) that that Tia & Luna had their Alicorn status before they earned their cutiemarks. And keep in mind there was a time of Ponies before Equestria. So yes what Celestia has said is true. Equestria has never seen an Alicorn be born before & it's quite possible since everypony was fighting and bringing down the Windigos means it's probably likely they were the first and nobody knew how to take care of them. Might be interesting idea of them going from the outcasts to becoming Royalty.

1. Well if you read my previous replies Cadence once a Pegasus is from Twilight Sparkle the crystal heart spell, which is a hasbro kids' book. Which some people consider canonical, and given the fact that one of the other books implied Pinkie's 3 sister before we got Maud's first episode... eh?
2. Don't know maybe. I mean Twilicorn didn't exactly master the power of flight when she got her wings which for me I think is good, keeps her from being less god like.

Well, even Twilight in the Crystaling episode said she thought alicorn status must be earned, so it is not only fans speculation. But yes, I agree it is most likely that only Celestia and Luna never seen born of an alicorn before. Even the journal of two sisters mentioned alicorn tribe, I was deducting from that they are more of a species same way like E,U,P. It would be interesting to see more from the past but I'm afraid that won't happen, considering time G4 has left.
You are second person saying to me Cadence was pegasus. Is that in the journal or somewhere else? In the flashback from the show she was already alicorn when babysitting Twi. I've read the journal long time ago but I don't recall any mention of Cadence in it (it's not really saying much as I have problems to recall what happened last weak, so I just want to know if I should re-read or if it is from somewhere else)
