ok.. what i think you are looking for is constructive crit.. all about technical control. praises are great and so are fruitloops. but now it's time to get down and bogy.
scale 10 being excellent 0 being not so good
1) 9.5 VALUES- VERY SOLID this is the primary reason why the image looks the way it looks.
2) 9.3 colors- this can be broken down in branches.. your colors if not adjusted on PS 9.3
9 INTENSITY IS THE POWER OF THE COLORS... YOU CAN FIND THIS OUT ON ps
9.5 SATURATION YOU CAN FIND THIS OUT TOO ON PS
3) 8.7 DRAWING IF NOT TRACED, OR PAINTED OVER FROM A PHOTO FROM THE TOP LAYER IS VERY GOOD. WHY 8.7????
I TELL YOU WHY A PERSON THAT draw well has this sensitivity about observation of not dead traced. when you trace, you are pulling proportions out thus acclimating to observe relationship between shapes. neglecting the sensitivity of edges between smaller areas with the form of the face. i know this was done from a photo, why? how?
you see the depth of field, this is the compensation of the camera lens trying to adjust itself. then if you have this sophistication why is there no sensitivity within the face features itself? one good pointer is the relationship of the two eyes.. see teh one further back? thsi should be softer, then teh one towards picture plane. why/ thing as they go deeper, further back, gets softer out of focus loses contrast, loss details etc.. it is not.. same with the hairs and hair strands. the brows are never a clean decisive line or contrast such as this. these are little hairs the flow back into the skin, therefore it soften and loose contrast.. the edge of her face is a form that turns into space.. rotating around to the other side, therefore it is not a sharp edge as indicated. it should soften and turn. the pupil, should be more liquidity.. this is not. i know from years of teaching and talking to kids, teens and adults, we often get impressed with skill or tightness of control such as demo here as the superior skill. the fact is the loser it is , the hard it is and still maintain excellent visual language. i can draw tight, clean and photo real, but the true perfection is non of these, it is saying it like a whisper not a shout. like calligraphy, ever flowing and simple but very hard to do. like a master samurai who draws its blade to kill one TIME ONLY, ONE CUT ONLY PRECISE AND ACCURATE. So people with less skill get swayed.. but look hard you find truth.
4) 5 edges and softness

I do appreciate you taking out the time to write all this on about the piece. I painted this piece from a printed reference of Jennifer, that was set up beside my computer. No tracing, no photoshop adjustments or nothing like that. It was really my first decent painting that I felt comfortable sharing on DA. I painted a few others, but my technique was still not clearly defined. Thank you for commenting.

Thanks Domi. I'm trying to do some airbrushing to change it up a bit. I'm kinda surprised how fast this painting technique has come together. Five days of failure and the sixth day of success, lol. There are some wonderful tutorials out there for painting techniques.

I watched a video on Youtube that explained all the things I was missing out on and it clicked. To tell you truth, airbrushing is easier than gradient mesh and I think, painting gives more freedom. I'm liking it so far.
