Description Canon Digital Rebel XSi

One of two shots I took using the reverse lens technique I'm probably not gonna do any more reverse lens shots until I purchase a reversing lens, so this will have to quench your macrolicious XSi thirst for now... I'm still taking macros with the old PowerShot for now

Please tell me what you think!

WOW! Soo cool. So you used the reverse lens technique. I just found out about it today and now I'm researching. I'm thinking of purchasing an XSi but I did want to take macro photos without the $$$ involved, and this makes me all the more encouraged. Thank you for this, it is awesome. I love his big eyes 8D

Thank you!
It's certainly a good camera. Not sure how the newer T1i compares in price, but I'm sure you've already looked into that

Now that's just amazing, if I wasn't scared of photographing spiders I would've done this by now lol!

Great shot!

You should try it! Tiny spiders like this don't even have the "fangs" to bite you (they're way too small). I used to be afraid of them until I started photographing them
Thanks!

You know the weirdest thing I can't find any

I was out in my back yard a few times looking to photograph little creepy crawlies but found nothing.

Look on warm surfaces. I always find them on the wood deck or the siding of our house

Oh btw, I didn't particularly like reverse lens shooting the DOF is a killer! *I prefer a teleconverter and actual macro.

Nice shot there mate.
Problems I've found with reversing the lens is having enough light to focus by, when you narrow the aperture.
Looks like you have about half a millimeter of focus depth there, and you managed to nail it nicely.
Well done!

FramedByNature In reply to Thermalfish [2008-09-13 04:43:29 +0000 UTC]

Thank you
I'm certainly glad I nailed it, shallow DOFs can certainly be tricky

Imagine the view he had of you with four multifacetted eyes!
For many makes of camera there are adapter rings available to secure a lens to the camera body. (check ebay)

BTW thanks for the fav on "Gyre"!

I suppose I looked pretty strange to him
I'm definitely looking into the reversal rings

... no problem!

wytrvn In reply to FramedByNature [2008-09-13 05:48:24 +0000 UTC]

Or you can do as I do. I have macro rings - a cheap alternative to a macro lens & which I've used for 3 decades with both my film & digital cameras. And yes I do get dirt on the digital whatever-you-call-it, but I use canned air occassionally, with the shutter locked up.
