Description Amaya no Nibi (Amaya of two tails)

Alternative title- "The Ghost of Suna Graveyard"

Finished at last, dattebayo!

This is my half of the "Naruto OC in Kimono" art trade I did with Subaku-kun even though she posted Ayame months ago. -_-

Last night I actually finished a total of three pictures including the Kumiko-Natsumi one. This is number two. I know, I'm amazed I got so much done myself. XD

I actually love how this picture turned out. I think the light of the lantern makes Amaya look very "ghostly." And if you happen to know Amaya's story, you'll know that it fits her character perfectly.

I hope you like it, Sushie! Sorry it took so long! XD

I really like her design, and the rose in her hair reminds me of Konan, whom I like a lot. The color choice is nice and appropriate too. It's good to be aware of colors and not too saturated ones, and I approve of the scheme with the browns/purples/yellow which balance well. Also your lines are very clean! Difficult to acheive, I know I've never had a really smooth one ever.

Composition isn't bad, it's pretty good how most spaces is filled, so there's not too much blank spaces, though the it's a bit static, since the focus is right in the middle, the latern does a little to leviate attention from it though, which is good~

Otherwise, I suppose you could up the contrast, at least make darks darker, since it is night after all and since there is a light source, it'd make things behind other things darker as well as whatever isn't reaching the immediate area those lights are in (unless there is a lot of other lights?). And the rocks on the ground seem to be off, like they're tilted downwards, so I supppose it's a perspective problem. It's probably good to look at a reference with the right view point...

Hopefully that helps

Yay, a comment from Kao! :3 So you liked this one huh?

lol she reminded me of Konan from the moment I drew the rose too. As for my lines I gots a secret for ya...pen tool! XD There's no way I can draw anywhere near that clean with my tablet. The pen tool does take a bit of time, but it's actually a lot faster than you think.

Yeah, I noticed it was a bit stiff too, but I just loved her face so dern much I couldn't bring myself to redraw it. And by then it was half-colored anywayz. Hmmm, I've always been a bit shy around super dark contrasts in color pieces, but now that you mention it, I should try not to be, huh?

XD You're right about the perspective too. I had a feeling it was off, but again, by then it was over half-colored and I said "meh." XD

Thanks for the critique. It means so much to me you don't even know! I too am trying hard to improve right now, like I told you before, so any and all critique is crucial right now! Even if this is an older drawing that just took me forever to get colored...

Thanks again, Kao! You don't mind if I call u that right?

I think it's one of your most finished XD so I think it's best to comment on it~

XD haha pen tool doesn't work well for me. Or maybe it's my version or something. But I'm super super lazy so I don't ever usually bother to do lineart anymore~

I'm too lazy to ever really redraw things, but it's always good to keep in mind things for next time~ And haha don't be shy about trying new things~ that's how you improve!

XDD for next time~ don't worry about it now. Art is a constant reworking, but if you're already done with something, it's hard to get yourself to want to do more.

Aww XD I think it's one of the most complete colored of yours and I'm not good at critiquing comics and such so

Haha it's fine~ tis what people call me after all.

FoxxBrush In reply to Kaorien [2008-09-06 05:37:26 +0000 UTC]

well thanks again for the comment anywayz.

The pen tool is actually really easy to use, and because of it, I don't ever use the tablet for line arts anymore. If you're interested in learning, just type in "Pen Tool Tutorials" here on DA and you'll find something really fast. That's how I learned. Mostly all you need is the CTRL key and your mouse and you're good to go! Plus, with the pen tool you don't have to worry about erasing lines, you can easily change parts of a picture you don't like, and you can choose the thickness of the lines in the drawing! It's a really useful tool I would advise checking out if you ever feel like doing linearts again sometime. XD

I will keep everything you said in mind for the next time, for sure! There's no way I'm going to go back and fix any already posted drawings by now. I'd rather just draw something new!

Thanks again Kao-chan! I didn't expect any comments at all so don't feel pressured to do any more if you don't want to okay? It's fine if you're not good at critiquing comics, I totally understand. ^_^

It's no problem really XD; I'm not anyone special.

XD ahh.. sou.. I'll have to try it sometime. I'm used to just doing lineart freehand. It feels a bit more natural, though drawing on the compy at all doesn't give me too much control.

Of course~ Must keep moving forward, not backwards!

Haha well I'm kinda sleepy honestly XD if I remember in the morning I'll try comment on some other things.

XD RU kidding? Anyone who leaves me a worthwhile comment is special in my book! That's part of how I'm going to be different than the stereotypical "popular" we find here on DA usually.

All I'm saying is try the pen tool. I'm not like a salesman for it or anything, so I don't really care if you use it or not. It's just what I use.

lol okay! Good night then, Kao-chan!

lol, well ganbatte ne~ it'll take some patience~

haha I know. Other people recommend it too and it'd be nice to see something easy. But I am made out of phail and suck at easy things apparently haha.

omigawd! Even you probably don't know how *$&#*% gorgeous this is! I love the color scheme! (black and purple are my fav colors) Kudos man, I don't even have words for my love for this!

man, and all the stuff you've been submitting...makes me wish I wasn't so idle. With all the school, I only get time on the weekends.

lol glad u like it! I was wondering when you'd get back online and see this! It's been up for like, a week or something. XD

Yeah, I may have had a ton of trouble getting it done, but I thoroughly enjoyed the end result. It actually looked a bit boring until I did the lantern light effects at the end. Then it was BAM and I was like "Woah, when did it start looking THAT good??"

Sorry again for taking so long. I hope you didn't lose too much hair. XD

And thanks! I've been extremely busy lately. I'm literally driving myself through a crash course on drawing, and I'm jumping up sooo far because of it! I think I'm finally getting to the level where I can start getting some commissions and actually making money off of all my insomnia! XD

Subaku-kun In reply to FoxxBrush [2008-09-06 03:16:34 +0000 UTC]

lol, the loss of hair was worth it

I think you're at that level too. I wish you luck on that, it's hard to find a commissioner these days, but I find it easier if you actually display physical prints.

There's actually a dude who is willing to buy some prints from me when it was displayed at one of my school music concerts. Why don't you try something like that?

FoxxBrush In reply to Subaku-kun [2008-09-06 04:03:48 +0000 UTC]

lol good. Hopefully it'll grow back now. XD

Thankies. I actually have had my Art Store section up in my journal since I got that last CSS, but no one has bit that hook. I think maybe it would just take a designated journal asking people directly to commission me. Surely somebody's gotta have paypal on DA besides me. XD All I ever hear is how "I don't have PayPal or I totally would!"

I also think that if I submitted some examples of what people could potentially commission me for would be helpful. Then when they see the Art Store, they'll actually have an example to look at for each definition. I'll do that sometime soon.

I would display it like that, but sadly, I'm no longer in school. Maybe I could bring some art to a Con whenever I finally get the chance to go to one and do it that way.

Subaku-kun In reply to FoxxBrush [2008-09-06 04:10:06 +0000 UTC]

good idea. Try displaying your art in other places than deviantart too. Deviantart has a lot of great artists to choose from (i mean REALLY good ones) so try going somewhere low-profile, but not unknown.

FoxxBrush In reply to Subaku-kun [2008-09-06 04:24:23 +0000 UTC]

That's a good idea too. I might just do that if I find any. But then again, my laziness will probably lead me to just abandoning those other sites eventually. XD I post on DA because it helps me categorize and archive my drawings, it's nice to get feedback from people who actually like looking at pictures (aka not anyone I know ), and of course the wonderful friends I've made online like you, Sushie!

awww

it's good to have artistic friends. Usually, my friends just oggle at the pictures and slap me when I critisize my own pictures.

FoxxBrush In reply to Subaku-kun [2008-09-06 04:57:21 +0000 UTC]

lol yeah, usually my friends just beg me to teach them to draw. XD And then my family just points out an exposed naval or gun I may have drawn in the picture and is all "I like it except for that..." -_-

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Subaku-kun In reply to FoxxBrush [2008-09-06 05:03:13 +0000 UTC]

homg

My friends have already given up on me, I'm definitely no teacher. Even if I give it a shot, it usually sounds like this:

"THIS LINE IS .3% OFF!"
"I thought you were supposed to be helping me..."
"HOW IS THIS NOT HELPING?!?"

lol, i fail at teaching art...or anything for that matter.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FoxxBrush In reply to Subaku-kun [2008-09-06 05:23:14 +0000 UTC]

And again, you prove we are complete opposites. I'm always being told I should be an art teacher when I grow up, cuz I explain things in such an easy and understandable way or something. That's prolly why people are always asking me to teach them how to draw too. XD I suppose I could be an art teacher on the side along with being a legendary comic artist.

lol if you were rotting on the streets and I was famous, I would totally send you money to help you out or something. I think that's what all rich people should do with their money. And yes, you can claim to know me virtually.

lol, you make me feel so selfish but that's good, makes me wanna follow in your footsteps.

i wonder if anyone would actually believe me if I claimed to know you...

lol that makes me feel good inside.

If they don't believe you, just call me and they can ask me themselves. XD

"OMG. Are you really...?"

"Yep."

"So.....do you know a girl named Sushie?"

"Yep." -click-

nuff said.
