Description My last check was for bullet drop compensation; at this range even gravity has an effect on bullet trajectory. I peered down the sight one more time before I began my mental preparation. In the middle of my sights, the president of the United States of America. Was what I doing right? Many would argue not. Hell, once upon a time even I would question such actions. But to understand my motives you need to first understand the situation, and the first thing you need to understand is, this country is not controlled by our President!

Our 'President' and I use the term loosely is a puppet, a political tool. A fall guy for a very powerful, corrupt and sinister organisation. A small organisation called the Federal Reserve Corporation. I know what you're thinking, what would I know, a grunt ex-militant sniper working for a no named backdoor cell. But before you write me off, think about this; in 1913 congress passed the Federal Reserve Act, based on lies perpetuated by a powerful banking giant. The act officially took the power to create money away from the U.S Treasury and gave it to the privately owned Federal Reserve Corporation.

Which basically translates when the US needs money to finance its projects, even after collecting taxes. It must turn to the Federal Reserve to create it. The Federal Reserve fronts the cost of printing the cash, being the nice guys they are, and hands it over. But! Here's the catch. The US is then obligated to pay back the Reserve said lent amounts along with the inevitable banks favourite invention... interest!

Problem is the interest was never created, couple that with the passing of the 'Federal Income Tax' bill, the tax payers are paying back the reserve interest currency that doesn't exist. The country is always indebted to the banks as much as a home owner is indebted to their mortgage.

If that doesn't anger you enough take one more consideration into account, the number one reason for a government to request a large amount of funds, is to finance a war! And if you knew what I knew, it could change your opinion about America's involvement in World War One, World War Two and Vietnam, not to mention the profitable 'War on Terror'. I could sit here for hours and argue premeditated events like Lusitania, Pearl Harbour, Gulf of Tonkin and even 9/11 but that doesn't explain the why.

Why am I in this hotel room with a high powered rifle aimed at the presidential podium on this Fourth of July weekend? A reminder to an unwilling brainwashed public that the very celebration of this ironic holiday is a complete contradiction, considering society has let itself once more become usurped by a manipulative corporation with one goal in mind? No that would be naive. To show people the true corruption behind their new America run by the Federal Reserve? They would not believe it, the men with power control the media. I would be labelled an extremist and they would only gather more momentum to their cause. So why?

This country, this society is controlled by the powerful few. They will continue to grow spreading fear and separatism wherever they go like a virus. Keeping the public distracted with music, movies, video games and arbitrary events not current to our hopeless situation. It was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe who said "None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free" so why am I doing this? Well these 'powerful few', believe they are above the law, which they are. They believe that they can control the masses, which they can. They believe no one will rise against them, which they probably won't. And they believe they are untouchable!

Click!

The suppressor masked the otherwise deafening sound of the Barrett M107, the muzzle flash hidden deep inside my darkened hotel room. The result was instantaneous, the president was rushed to the ground by several heavily protected secret service men. Unfortunately the man to his left was not so lucky. He was hit with the full force of the devastating .50 cal bullet, there was never any hope for him.

This was a message to the untouchables as the 'presidential advisor' whom was really the figurehead of the federal reserve lay motionless on the podium, they would realise they were no longer untouchable. And we will not stop until they do. It was time to take the power back!

My biggest challenge with this as a flash fiction piece is that it's virtually all expositional narrative. In flash you get 600± words, so you need to pass on as much information as you need to in the action of the story - you can't really spend the story telling the back story as there's no room left for the punch.

We don't get to know the main character at all other than through his single action and his tone of voice, so it's difficult to sympathize with him. Make me see the character, feel what he feels and then I'm going to care what happens to him.

The idea and the background are solid, and the actual writing is smooth and reads well, but I'd use this as the unwritten back story and then write a piece with more action based on what you know from this. Show, don't tell; tell only what can't be shown, and only if it's absolutely critical that it be told.

My only other complaint with this is that it appears to be the last thing you've posted since August of last year. What gives? Get writing, dammit! Don't make me come down there!

Welcome back! Very nice to hear from you!

I wrote sporadically until my daughter was born in '94, then not a lick until my twins were 3 in '05 - 11 years later. I've had some hiccups, most recently I've only just started back with any consistency in the last few months after the better part of a year of silence. What's my point? Life happens, priorities shift, and things come along to eat up all our spare time. If you need to be writing, you'll be making time for that first, or doing what I've done and carving off chunks of time to deal with a raw nerve or exposed emotion. If you want to write, you have to deliberately plan time in which to do that, and be diligent. If you're a hard core writer, you'll be writing all the time without any regard for anything else that might require your attention. I would suggest that most people fall between the need and want to write.

As long as you keep writing, (and posting - I'm not going to hack into your computer to read your work if you don't post it), I'll keep giving you my feedback. Maybe not instantaneously, as I'm eyebrow deep in shit at the moment, but shortly.

Again - nice to hear from you! I hope life has been treating you well, and your young ones are making you insanely proud!
