Description This is a series of images showing that some origami models can be altered to look quite different from their origin.

Image 1: This is Hideo Komatsu's Origami Fox, folded without deviation from the diagram. It is an amazing model and I have folded it several times before.

Image 2: Here is an early attempt at changing the model a little, to give it more of a personal touch. The changes made were only in the final stages, where I gave the head a different look and introduced a small color change around the neck area. The tail was also given some volume and a white tip but, it looks messy.

Image 3: From this point on, I started making changes in the early stages of folding. It allowed for a standing position and a much better color change for the neck and one on the lower part of the head. The tail is over-worked here again.

Image 4: I folded the back legs in a way to let the fox have it's socks (they should be black but, the paper only has 2 sides.) This also helped me find a more elegant way to fold the tail. By refolding the back layer downwards, I was able to add a white underbelly and it was one of the most problematic parts to do. I added some extra fur to the back of the neck to give it more of a winter mane, but it's a detail that can be changed back and forth easily.

Image 5: Not a lot of alterations here, just minor refinements. I did give some length back to the tail, since foxes tend to have a long one.
There might be several new folds introduced and reference lines moved, however this fox is still rather close, structurally, to the one envisioned by Master Komatsu.

Foxes each folded from a 25cm square of paper, painted beforehand with acrylic paint.

Thanks, I try to add my own touch to models I fold, though the result isn't always (or even often) this good.

This is absolutely charming! I've always wanted to be good at origami, but considering the amount of trouble I've had each time I attempted a basic paper creation, I think it's best that I leave it to you pros and stick to painting myself. I'm interested to see what you come up with next!

practice makes perfect! :3 sometimes even though someone sucks at something on their first try, doesn't mean they can't become a professional. everyone has to start somewhere.
