Context I forgot to give earlier!!

After this fight , we ended up sort of letting ourselves in (Spook just teleported inside and opened the door, thankfully he passed the save he had to make!) to probably my fav NPC, Monroe Wonderlust's, house - he's a (very flashy and ecentric) enchanter and magic item salesman we met earlier in the campaign on the road, and then again here at his shop where we may have slightly bullied him into letting us buy stuff. We were essentially fighting on his doorstep, so he obviously locked up. When push came to shove he let us in and made an excuse to the authorities to cover for us (because this man is kind of a public nuisance sometimes - he may not be the most RESPONSIBLE enchanter).

When we exchanged our situation, he seemed like he sort of wanted to help us, but... couldn't? He couldn't explain why. He encouraged us to go to an old, quarndoned off home in the city that was off limits and see if we could find... something, of his. Couldn't tell us what. So we went and tried to do that!

It initially just seemed like an old abanoned family home - there were some questionable letters, and receipts for the purchase of a lot of spell components which Sal thought looked very suspiciously like ressurection magic. Most of the... slightly alarming letters we saw were written by Inanis, and the center of a lot of conversation was someone named Nixanna, his grandaughter who we gathered had died.

The letters were stamped with what Spook immediately recognized as Fort Weissrosen's crest, and dated from around when Mariam would've been alive and working there - so he asked Sal to send her to ask about the names and if she knew anything about what happened (They got 25 words each so y'know - very brief Q/A). Turns out she did know some - Nixanna died when she was very young (I think she was like 4 or 5), and Mariam was partially responsible for her care. She just got very sick and nothing anybody did, nor any magic, seemed to do anything. Spook felt super bad for asking when Sal told the party what she said (he did not put together that this was a kid until after).

Other than some strange magical damage on the main floor, we didn't find anything too out of the ordinary.

(there was SO MUCH info here but I'm not the note taker of this campaign, so a lot of detail will be missing unfortunately - there was like an unrequited love story and shit too I do not remember it all in enough detail to elaborate)

And then we went to the basement! Which we're PRETTY SURE IT'S THE GRANDFATHERS OLD LAB

HOW COOL!!

--

The first thing we found were some strange schematics, and weird machines that seemed designed to extract... something from people. This place gave Spook the same weird pins and needles that the Blightbark did too, which is never a good sign.

There were a bunch of jars with names on them down there!! Jars of... memories? Emotions? Something like that? Anyway we grabbed Monroe's, and a couple we figured were relevant (Alastor, the archmage who fixed Sal has one, and apparently Sorrel's dad she hates except she's the only one who knows about that one since we don't know his name).

While grabbing those we were attacked by weird buff abominations with those fun steel masks - they seemed to be actively suffering, but also they can telepathically throw things and were fucking us up pretty badly. Sal and Spook both got clocked right in the head, and Sal almost got cornered immediately (by rushing in to protect the man who can teleport, of course). Spook got them both out of there.

Sorrel just got cornered and clobbered, and Fehn only barely made it to her in time to heal her.

We made it out, but holy shit it was a very awkward spot to be in - the creatures wouldn't follow us out of the basement due to the sunlight.

(Feel free to ask me questions about this plot stuff if you're interested bc I can probably answer them, but god it's a lot to condense, and was also months ago now)
