Description The Sherlock Portrait Set, based on new BBC Sherlock TV show. The idea is to paint the new cast in original Victorian clothing.

Separate paintings can be found here:

Sherlock: [link]

John:[link]

James/Jim :[link]

Mycroft:[link]

It doesn't start as a set. I started out with Sherlock, and then feel like he won't be complete with Watson. I was watching the TV show the whole time while I was painting, and after finishing Watson, I'm not done watching the show... So I painted Moriarty and Mycroft, while watching the show for another 10 times or so.

I have to say, the entire process is probably the best I had with painting for a very long time. Sure there're frustrations of trying to get the facial feature right, but over all, watching Sherlock and Painting Sherlock has been amazing. I'm actually looking forward to going home everyday so I can paint some more.

Now I need to go paint something else~ I hope you guys enjoy this set as much as I do.

Thanks

Edit:

I just noticed now that I put all pieces together:

Sherlock - Purple (violet) - secondary color- Blue+Red

Moriarty - Red - primary color

Mycroft - Pink (violet red) Tertiary color - Violet + Red

Watson - Green - Secondary Color - Blue+Yellow

So translate that into person:
Sherlock - 1/2 Watson + Moriarty

Moriarty = 100% Moriarty

Mycroft = Sherlock + Moriarty

Watson = 1/2 Sherlock + Moriarty

Only Moriarty stands out by himself (red), everyone else share something (blue).

LOL~ That's unexpected.

Christ, this is amazing. Clever thing with the colours too. XD I love Sherlock art where the new cast wears old Victorian clothes, but this has a whole new spin to it. My favourite would have to be Moriarty.

thanks~ LOL. and there's no stupid questions

I haven't used actual oil paint since art school, they're messy, smelly, and difficult to change if you screw up. Man how I'm glad I switch to digital. So yeah, these are done in photoshop.

Victorian!Sherlock! I think I'm in Heaven! They look so good! I might actually drool too. ^O^ I especially love Moriarty and Sherlock! I mean I love them all but something just draws me to your renditions of them. And when I read your description (about the colouring) I was a bit confused. But I think I get it. Thanks for this gorgeous pic. I really, really, REALLY hope you keep up the good work!

FluorineSpark In reply to moonlight1314 [2011-01-16 03:09:32 +0000 UTC]

LOL the color thing is a bit confusing... I have no idea where I was getting at...

If you love Sherlock and Victorian, you might want to go read the original stories (which indeed happened in Victorian London, from 1888 to early 1920). Or you could check up the Granada TV series with the brilliant Jeremy Brett as Sherlock. Although it might come out a bit out of date for modern viewers, but Jeremy Brett is still the best Sherlock for me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

moonlight1314 In reply to FluorineSpark [2011-01-21 01:37:42 +0000 UTC]

Oh I've read the series and watched the TV series! Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock I think too. I do differentiate between them though; I mean if I were to refer to the Brett series I'd use "Sherlock Holmes" versus the Cumberbatch series where I'd use "Sherlock". And I just LOVE this series’ characters in Victorian garb is what I meant. As for the coloring at first I was kind of going "Wha? I understand I think..." but then they explanation threw me off so I just went with what I thought you meant and after reading the next bit, I'm sure was right. Its very ingenious. Did you do that consciously?
