That's one of the last natural woods here. On this beautiful early autumn morning, there were sort of the best meteorologic conditions to capture the true beauty of this untouched forest : a sea of mist covered the place but some sun light was piercing through. There were almost no sunrays because the fog was extended above the forest, but it was very luminous so the atmosphere was very pleasant, peaceful, mysterious and magic at the same time.

Do you edit the images at all to bring up the colours? Or is that natural?
The play of light through the fog is amazing, and the sharp contrast with the reds and greens makes this look sort of unreal. Plus autumn is an amazing season for colour. I wish there were woodlands like this in the UK.

In fact, an image straight out of the camera is not "natural" : cameras have a dynamic range much lower than our eyes and it can't capture the right strengh and difference of all colors. So I basically do multiple exposure to have all part right exposed (to avoid dark black shadows or too white lights) and then I do various adjustements (on colors, contrast, hue, and so on) to achieve the image exactly as I want. I do it so I can feel again what I saw in reality.
Now, it's very hard to do something 100% natural, there is always the personnal vision of the artist going through an image, but I think this is not a bad point : If we all could do 100% natural images they would all look the same and they would lack of "identity".
Still, for this image, it is very very similar to what I saw. If one day you have the occasion to walk into a misty forest at early morning, you will see that what's on my images is true and that it's really more magic in reality.

I love photography, but I know next to nothing about the intricacies of it, so it was great to read about all the elements you have to consider. And you're right - if everyone's photos reflect what we physically see, the elimination of the artist's personnal vision, as you said, would definitely take something away.
You're just incredibly lucky to have such wonderful places within easy reach. Unfortunately, there's not too many misty forests around me - and none like this
