wow, this is very intense. i love how content they look, just... how happy. and then it makes me think of that they won't be happy in the future and that spoils it all. I HATE THE FUTURE.

sigh.

anyway, this is a really lovely picture! might i ask you, which painter-version did you use? i am working with GIMP right now and find it rather... well, strange. but then again, i'm really new to this whole graphic-tablet business. sigh. i feel as if i'll never manage it.

Thank you for your nice comments!
I think, since this was drawn several years ago, I was using Corel Painter 7, maybe 8. Nowadays, I use Corel Painter 9.
But in any case, I know it had to have been done using the digital watercolor tool for all the base painting, and the yellow hue was added over everything with the airbrush tool, and I just fiddled with the layer transparency and blending options until i was satisfied.
It can be hard getting used to using a tablet. I remember when I first started using a tablet I would get really frustrated having to look at the screen to see what my hand was drawing, instead of being able to look down at my hand moving across the paper. Just like anything else, it simply takes a lot of practice to get comfortable with a tablet.
If you're looking for a new digital art application, you can always give OpenCanvas a try; it's simple and straightforward, and there's an older version available for free.
Good luck with your artwork! ^^

Thank you so much for your answer! I have a last question, and I hope you don't mind: do you work with a Wacom Tablet? I've another one, from the brand "Trust" and it's crap! The lines are sort of wobbly, and I can't draw continuously, have to wait until the Tablet catches up and so...
I'd like to believe that I'd actually get results I LIKE with a Wacom Tablet,...? As I've heard they're good.

yes, i use a wacom tablet.

For years I had been using an old graphire 2, and have only recently upgrading the latest intuos 3. My old graphire was good enough for creating images at screen resolution, but wasn't precise enough to handle the amount pixels necessary to make print-size images(the lines would render a few pixels off from where I wanted them).

I think the old graphire series is comparable to Wacom's current Bamboo tablets. If you're just drawing for fun, and don't plan on making high-resolution print-size images, I think the Bamboo Fun should be meets your needs. But if you *do* plan on making hi-res images, there's no beating the intuos 3. The pressure sensitivity and precision lines are phenomenal.
