Description
First of all, let me give a big thank you to my good friend YahooSounding for opening my eyes to Stekiko (Steve Smith x Akiko Yoshida), which has become my American Dad OTP. Not only is it an incredibly cute ship, it's arguably canon. Steve is shown to have feelings for Akiko several times, and in the episode "Spelling Bee My Baby", Akiko reciprocated those feelings, and the two of them even shared a kiss on-screen! (Unfortunately, American Dad is an animated sitcom, so Akiko and Steve's relationship was never revisited in order to preserve the status quo of "Steve Smith wants a girlfriend but can never get one", and Akiko herself basically vanished from the show, with her only subsequent appearances being non-speaking cameos. But still, it's nice that American Dad at least provided some fuel for Stekiko shippers. It's more than I can say for a lot of my OTPs! xD) Now, YahooSounding has written several delightful fanfics about these two, but even still, despite the aforementioned canon validation, there isn't a lot of Stekiko content out there. I think it has something to do with the fact that American Dad isn't nearly as popular as its big brother Family Guy, so Dadders are fewer in number; this, combined with the fact that animated sitcoms in general aren't exactly known for having fanbases that are fervent about shipping (most people who watch animated sitcoms are there to laugh, not to debate which characters should get together), means that ships like Stekiko, which in a big fandom would get a sizable amount of artwork and fanfics, don't get much love. Fortunately, nothing motivates me to draw fanart for a ship I love quite like a lack of art, so this won't be the last time you see me draw Steve and Akiko.

Anyways, this picture is inspired by this meme by the aforementioned YahooSounding . He thought it would be cute if Steve Smith and Akiko Yoshida went on a double date with Chris Griffin and Roberta Tubbs (which, as you know, is a ship that I am a very adamant shipper of). And I totally agree. The idea of Steve and Chris hanging out in general is a fun idea, not to mention one that could hypothetically happen in some future episode of either of their shows (since it has been shown multiple times that Family Guy and American Dad take place in the same universe). So, naturally, when I saw that meme, after getting over my initial squee-ing over how cute that would be, I thought to myself, as I so often do, "I should draw that."

When deciding where they should go for their double date, I ultimately settled on a coffee shop. Coffee shops have long been an ideal spot for both dates and hang-outs between friends, and are especially popular with teenagers and young adults; so, since these four are all high-school-aged teenagers, I thought it would be a great place for these four to have a double date. This coffee shop could be in Quahog, Langley Falls, or some other location, but what matters is that they're all there and they're all hanging out and having a good time. Roberta got an iced coffee, Chris got a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream and a cookie, Steve got a latte (probably with a heart made in the foam), and Akiko got a cup of green tea.

Oh, and by the way, the art pieces hung on the wall of the coffee shop are both pieces that I made for an art class I took during my freshman year of college (I'm a game design major, so I have to take several art classes for my major). My thought process was "instead of spending unnecessary time drawing art to hang on the walls, I could just use art that I've already made and saved to my computer".
