Additional design notes:
Despite Aloy not actually having any blue markings on her skin in her original design, I thought it would be a good idea to add them to her tail and shoulder. Lots of other characters in Horizon (such as Aloy’s adoptive father, Rost) do wear this blue paint, and blue markings on the skin are also a staple of Nora culture.
When I was deciding what tribe to make Aloy, I immediately knew I had to make her a SkyWing. She’s brash, courageous, and outspoken; how many SkyWings are stereotyped! A short while after I began lineart for my design, I realized I wanted to implement bold colors, such as light blue, onto Aloy’s actual scales, which are of course unusual in SkyWings. Hence, I made Aloy a SkyWing-RainWing hybrid, with her main body being that of a SkyWing and some of her coloring and the shape of her back spines being that of a RainWing.
