6 coats of primer and gloss black spray paint.

sorry to correct, but it's not a katana, it's a chokuto.
(I'm NOT a know-it-all, but that's how it appeared in the anime)

To be honest I really don't know the difference.

a chokuto is a strait sword, and a katana is a curved blade.

I did not know that. The straightness was mostly due to my inexperience. This was my first sword based on an actual sword.

How long does it take you to make one on average
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
fixinman In reply to JayArchan [2010-11-25 03:45:43 +0000 UTC]
Depends on the sword. If it is a first time around it can take a month. Some I can make in as little as six hours.

wow have you ever tried to make Kenpachi's sword?

I want to but it is a lot harder than it looks. That hand guard is amazingly complex.

i can imagine, how did you get started in making them. My wife and I are looking at starting in to doing cosplay I am always looking for advice on how to make things like that. Makes it more authentic so to speak.

Well it's not really perfect I have learned a few things and invented a couple of tools that would let me make a better one. But I do like it. Looks like you want to try swordmaking let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the suport, actualy i have a question, the lenght of the blade...you see, mine is 82 cm aprox, but its seems that the real one is more big... i could not tell, by reading the manga and i thought that mine that is a litle more big that the blade of my bokken should work fine...

fixinman In reply to SP4RT4N-23 [2009-03-20 04:25:39 +0000 UTC]
The main problem with anime swords is that they keep changing their minds what they look like. Assuming that Ichigo stood 170cm I worked out that the blade was 92 cm. However I have seen them as long as 105cm. It's really your choice.
An example of how they change their mind Rukia's Sode changes 4 times in the first episode where we see it.

Wow O.O
Great thing about the balance point XD
What kind of paint/stain/whatever did you use on the blade?

fixinman In reply to Dracona [2008-12-17 23:12:24 +0000 UTC]
Just ordinary gloss black spray paint.

couple ?'s:
1. how strong is the material?
2. is it practice worthy?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
fixinman In reply to TensaZangetsu13 [2008-12-04 01:16:56 +0000 UTC]
You can practice with it as long as you don't hit anything because the blade is only 1/4" thick.

Maple can be found in the frames of old couches. The maple for Tenza and Sode came from an old bed. Balsa can also be used but it isn't as strong as maple.

Thanks. The unfortunate thing about them is you really have to be able to hold them to really appreciate them. Sigh oh well.
