Description and mugshots of their creator and keepers: (c.w. from top) Celebrimbor, Galadriel, Elrond, Gandalf, Cirdan & Gil-galad.

Not satisfied with the Rings I drew, but didn't wanna redraw the whole picture right away, so decided to post it.

Personally don't like the feminine design of the movie-Nenya: Celebrimbor didn't craft it for the purpose of gifting it to Galadriel! But I am really not someone to design a ring, so I just have it here (and it is really the most difficult ring to draw.. and I certainly failed in capturing its shape...)

Blue fountain pen and blue and red and orange pencils.

Characters and Rings and the line "Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky" belong to J.R.R. Tolkien (though here we have only one Elven-king in this picture LOL)

I love al of this! You drew Celebrimbor exactly as I imagine him… Oh, and Cirdan looks absolutely glorious with his beard

Oh really?! Matter of fact I had no idea what Celebrimbor would look like before I drew this, and in my first version (which I gave up) he looked far too gentle. And then I tried simplify his adornments (removing his circlet and letting his hair fall straight down), and it does work out to emphasize his features. Pretty cool, drawing can be

And Cirdan's beard, I'd say it's easier to draw than Gandalf's bushy one LOL

You did a great job. Celebrimbor's face has that sharpness that I associate with the House of FΓ«anor, yet there is also something soft and kind in it. (As for the adornments, it's sort of my headcanon that he didn't wear many, and never very gaudy or overly precious ones, because it would remind him of the pride and greed of the family he renounced.)

Actually I was just thinking of a ceremonious circlet, of simple and somewhat stern design, and nothing too rich or fabulous. But I needed to rearrange his hair to put that in place, and it didn't turn out well in my draft.
[Sometimes it is also the same with Galadriel; need more thinking when drawing Galadriel with her tiera than drawing one without; but I have grown so used to Elrond with circlet that I am finding it difficult to draw one without, LOL]

And back to Celebrimbor, nor do I think he will dress himself up with lots of adornments. He loves the beauty of metal and precious stones, and he loves the possibility of making them even more beautiful and attaching new qualuties to them with craft. But no, he doesn't show off with them. Actually I have not yet got over with male Elves wearing rich adornments e.g. heavy necklace made of lots of different jewels...

I find it difficult to imagine for most male elves, apart perhaps from Finrod. Finrod would wear them. I completely picture him as the kind of elf who would wear a ton of jewelry, if only to add to his natural shiny fabulousness. And he would never look even a bit gaudy wearing it, even when every other being in existence would have looked like they rolled in expensive christmas decorations. xD

I tried designing the Rings myself, and epically failed. These are so much better... they give an impression of being powerful without being too chunky or overly slender. And they look Elvish.

I also like Cirdan's design a lot.Β

One thing; I think that Nenya shouldn't be under the writing like that. At first I was a little confused, wondering where Nenya was! It's a beautiful design, and you don't want the words blocking it. I understand that here there's nowhere for it to really go, especially seeing as it's fountain pen, but perhaps under the word "sky"?

And you did this with fountain pen??? Wow! I could only do that if I drew in pencil first and then added the fountain pen on top.Β

Well I am very very satisfied with Vilya's and Narya's movie designs. Simply want Nenya to look a little bit more androgynous, I mean, looking good and fitting on either a man or a woman's finger. But the movie Nenya is certainly a beautiful ring in its own right.

I noticed that too. I misculcalated the space, and it turned out like this. Actually I drew the characters on the outside circle first (rough pencil draft and then slightly refined fountain pen sketch), the wrote the text (pencil underlining where to write and then writing with fountain pen), and finally I got down to the rings... Very rough pencil draft and hardly better fountain pen sketch... The draft of Nenya didn't look exact this way, but as I went on I found something wrong with its structure, and made alterations with fountain pen, and still it doesn't look good *sigh* Actually this is my second try on this theme, first try being a total failure, and I began to lose patience and didn't wanna.make.a third picture *punch me*

And I didn't mention pencil because I erased pencil drafts after finishing fountain pen outline. So pencil doesn't show in the picture. If you consider it necessary I will have this tool mentioned in the future.

And I personally am quite proud of my Cirdan design, too. Seems that bearded Elves are after all not that wierd - as long as you got no idea how they would have looked in their beardless youth

Definitely. I just wanted to draw my own designs... you know what I mean.

It still looks fine though! And I have that same problem; redrawing and redrawing certain scenes. Especially Elwing jumping into the sea.Β

You don't have to mention that you use pencil, I just was wondering.

Oh yes. I have a hard time with Mahtan, as I saw a picture of him when young and without a beard, and consequently I can't draw him well now. Argh. Wait... typing that gave me an excellent image of Cirdan... where's my sketchbook?Β

Actually this is my revisit of an idea that I had in July this year. I made a quick picture back then, but only the Keepers (full body, standing in a row), no Rings and no Celebrimbor (I definitely had no idea how to picture him properly back then). But it is really a pity that they should be omitted from a pic dedicated to the theme of the Rings of Power. And I shall say the recent Shadow of Mordor game has motivated me to work on this motif again, and this time with Celebrimbor included. [Not going to comment on the game; I'm no gamer. From what I have read about its story line, it appears far more AU than most fanfics I am inclined to read. I just saw lots of discussions about the game, and can't deny that does have some imfluence over me ]

And leaving an idea alone for some while before working on it again can be helpful in an unexpected way. I do feel this piece, and even the discarded draft, is noticably better than my July pic [and that's why you are not doing to see my July sketch ]

I never drew any pictures of Elwing's jump before. Don't think I will manage it even if I do try. But now I suddenly want to make a drawing of her, with her baby sons~

And you denifitely want to draw your Cirdan out, when your mind image is fresh. (And since this is a late reply, guess you have already done the drawing )

I agree, Celebrimbor's very important! AndΒ I'm not a gamer either, I epically fail at all electronic games that require fast reflexes.Β

Same here, to tell the truth, I think that I've improved a lot this summer. I'm still very very far from perfect, but when I look at sketches from last winter and spring my self-esteem is considerably bolstered.

I think it's finding the proper position for Elwing is what makes it difficult. Where should she be located? Halfway down the cliff? Just about to jump? And the matter of perspective doesn't help.

While I was drawing Cirdan I realized something. He was a combination ofΒ this Β and Ian McKellen as Gandalf the White. It was rather strange, but I liked the sketch. Hopefully I'll be able to go to the library soon and scan it.
