Dacelo-novaeguineae: Kookaburra.

This little one, its only a young one was sitting on the Balustrade out on the back decking this morning when I went out of the back door.

I quickly rushed back in very quietly to get my old 40D camera as that one has the 70-200mm lens on it always, the one around my neck had the macro on it.. I was amazed at how long it sat there I even managed to creep out that door again and take few photos of it outside so I could get better light. I sat down and softly talked to it, it did not seem worried by my presence at all and I was about three metres away.

Then the neighbour started up his Ride-On-Mower and the little one flew up into our nearest Gum Tree, and when the neighbour came around the side fence with the mower the noise was too much for it it flew away.

It was a wonderful experience for me as I have never been that close to a Kookaburra before.
