Description The pupil lifts up and there is a mirror underneath so you can actually see yourself. YOUTUBE video about it.

As an artist I love to challenge myself. This piece was inspired by Genesis chapter one of the Bible. It didn't take long to find the challenge. All I did was read the very first chapter and the images came flooding in, but the difficulty was to put all of that into one piece. I tried to represent all of the portions of the passage, but man was that tough. There are several different components of the painting that represent each thing that Genesis says was spoken into existence. The ultimate idea was to capture man created in God’s image. That’s tough to represent. If you look closely the earth creates the head of a person leaning backwards with outstretched arms over the cliffs. The earth is also the center of an eye which represents the actual moment of things created in His image. On the original painting, there is a flap in the center of the eye that lifts up to reveal a mirror. The mirror is to let the viewers see themselves in His image and to actually feel this painting. I tried it out on a friend, and it worked! He had no idea that the mirror was there. I told him to study the painting closely, and finally, he lifted the pupil, and it spooked him out. I laughed. Sorry, Andrew. It’s great when a piece makes you feel something. The whole concept was to show that the creation of the universe was intended for man to be the center of it all. I think we all feel like we are the center of the universe at times. It allows us the responsibility to care for this beautiful place. - IVAN
