Description arg, finally finished...

I was commissioned to make Marluxia's scythe "full Bloom"

It comes apart to fit in a suitcase.. you screw the staff together , and theres a couple connectors that I got from Ikea during a raid in an odds & ends hardware bin that connect the halves of the blade together. The blade slides onto the staff, and has a lil "nub" to lock it into place.

The crosspiece was the hardest part. its made from 11 layers of foamcore, hardboard, matboard, and tagboard. its still real sturdy and light though

pine, mdf, foamcore, plywood, matboard, tagboard, nuts, bolts, epoxy resin, bondo

Wow awesome work as always, can i ask what you made the handle out of? It doesn't look like curved PVC which is what i was planning on using...

fevereon In reply to Nero-Feuer [2010-08-22 02:39:36 +0000 UTC]

It was actually pine that i rough cut to shape, then filed down using a surform rasp

theres a raw image of it here..
[link]

though pvc was bendable, fluting the end (making it wider) was beyond my knowledge, so i just went with carving it. I first rough cut it, then cut it into thirds to add the screw connectors, screwed the parts back together fairly tight, then carved it, so its preactically seamless when joined back together.

Nero-Feuer In reply to fevereon [2010-08-22 05:56:36 +0000 UTC]

cool, thanks. hmm i need to find some of those screw connectors. somehow i doubt they'd let me get on the plane to Otakon with this whole thing being my carry-on

fevereon In reply to Nero-Feuer [2010-08-22 12:11:26 +0000 UTC]

you'll need some kind of barrier between the insulation and fiberglass, because it'll eat foam! I'd actually recommend covering that claymore with tagboard or something similar, like the facw of this thing [link] you can even cover the curves with it, since though some surfaces are curved, i don't see any actually domed/rpunded parts..

good luck!

Orochimaru888 [2009-10-15 04:00:17 +0000 UTC]

Commission? I'm new to DeviantART so i have no idea what that is. Are you saying that if I payyou to make "blooming dahlia" (marluxia's scythe)the same way you made the one in the photo, you would actually do it? AMAZING!

How much is your price?

Shipping as well i guess. lol

(Wants the scyhte sooooo bad)

fevereon In reply to Orochimaru888 [2009-10-16 01:05:52 +0000 UTC]

this was a piece i was commissioned to make. to be honest, i don't like making a particular prop more than once, unless i had to cast parts for it (which is too costly to just use once and toss)

Orochimaru888 In reply to fevereon [2009-10-17 12:52:23 +0000 UTC]

Aww man that sucks. I'm sorry for bothering you then. It's just that your scythe is the coolest i've seen in the entire internet. the others i see are to long or long to undetailed. But thank you for taking the time to talk to me.

fevereon In reply to Orochimaru888 [2009-10-17 15:45:13 +0000 UTC]

no its okay,I'll go back and reword the description thinger to make it clearer

Apologies again for the confusion!

Orochimaru888 In reply to fevereon [2009-10-19 22:48:23 +0000 UTC]

Just out of curiousity? Most of the Marluxia scythe's that i see available (ebay for example) look very large, there 79 inches i believe. If you'd be kind as to tell me, how long is the one you constructed? Yours looks shorter which makes it nicer. I'm trying to find where i can buy a Marluxia scythe because i'm going to my very first convention soon and i want to go as Marluxia. I have the wig, coat, gloves, boots, and i come with the green eyes (lol) so the scythe is the last thing.

fevereon In reply to Orochimaru888 [2009-10-19 23:33:12 +0000 UTC]

this one was 6 feet (72" ) from the tip of the blade to the butt of the staff, which was the longest distance in the design, as to accommodate the commissioners requirements for a conventions size restrictions (Otakon had a max length of a prop at 6 feet)

Orochimaru888 In reply to fevereon [2009-10-21 20:28:50 +0000 UTC]

Amazingness. So I Guess 79' inches isn't bad. Judging from your photo then, must mean your tall. (^_^)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fevereon In reply to Orochimaru888 [2009-10-21 22:28:23 +0000 UTC]

oh no lol. this is 72", which is 6 feet, from the tip of the blade to the botom of the staff (the diagonal) I'm around 5'7" or so XD

Do you know anyone who could do this "comission" thing for me? Obviously it would be nothing like your god-like quality lol, but a good scythe nonetheless.
