This was totally colored lights and no Photoshop. Becky kept tripping around in the dark while the shutter remained open and I'd move positions and she'd flash the light for a few seconds and we'd pray that it worked. lol It took a lot of experimenting, but it was loads of fun.

I need to find more colored lights.. Becky has a few, but all I've been able to find is orange and some black lights.

you could use colored cellophane and put it in front of a regular light, you probably already thought of that though... not very good with being helpful X.X

if you didn't use photoshop how did you get the two yous in the photo?

I've thought of that, but the light bulbs get so hot I'd be afraid of melting the cellophane and starting a fire. (I use cheapo painter's clamp lights as my lighting equipment. lol)

We had total darkness when Becky hit the shutter, and I remained in the "peaceful" pose. She turned the blue light on for a few seconds and then turned it off. While she moved to the other side with the red light, I turned my head and got into "scary face mode", then she turned the red light on for a second and turned it off again. Then she closed the shutter.
It took a few tries (it's hard to move just right way so that the rest of the body is still pretty much lined up - I moved too much the first few times.)

god i feel stupid, i don't understand your explanation at all... how did you get both shots in one shot? O.O but that's okay you don't have to explain it to me again, i'll just assume its MAGIC

lol i would have figured the melting thing out AFTER i used it haha

It's okay. It's called a long exposure or a bulb exposure - normally when you take a photo, the shutter opens for a fraction of a second to let light in and expose the film (or whatever it does in a digital camera. lol I still haven't wrapped my brain around that!), then closes instantly. For a bulb exposure, the shutter remains open until you hit the button again to close it.
According to the meta tags, the exposure time on this one was 15 seconds.

So.. we started with the lights off and Becky hit the shutter button, flashed the blue light, I moved and Becky moved in total darkness so the movement wasn't recorded "on film", then she flashed the red light, turned it off so it was dark again and then she closed the shutter. So every action we did was recorded in that one image, because the shutter was open the whole time. In total darkness, nothing shows up - so it allows for times to move and change the light.

Make any more sense now? ^-^

Cool! And I like it all the more knowing it's not a photomanipulation--it makes everything less forgiving and therefore more impressive when it works out this well.

OHman.. trying to figure out aperture settings and how long the lights should be on and me keeping totally still ... it was hysterical.
Thanks!
