I have mixed feelings on how John killed the mood. One one hand, it's nice because now neither of them spat all that venom at each other, but on the other hand, it's hard to work out a problem before it gets thrown out into the open.
Then there's also the nice bonus that now the mayor never got put into peril with the threat of immolation.
