Description This is my drawing for from the group . This is her healer character Bella from the Earth Tribe, I believe.

She has such a cute deign, I enjoyed working on her :3 But I spent soooo much time trying to find a good pose that I pretty much scraped everything and worked on her line-art last nite >_>

My friend helped me with the drawing as I used her characters as a drawing ref and I think it came out pretty well. So if no one has seen her art I want you to go look at her now! XD

I drew this out on paper first then showed it to Paper before uploading it and making the line-art from that, so that's why my cat looks a lot like the way she draws her characters, but it was because her chars were used as a ref. I think I'll keep using this style and let it merge into one of my own. WOOTS!

Anyways, I hope you like it, Frost!!!!

First of all, I really love the coloring and the way you did the fur, I love the way it flows with the rest of the fur. I really like the general anatomy on this picture, mostly the body shape and legs. [It may simply be your style, and if it is, my appologies] The head, however, could use a bit of work. The eyes seem rather large and the seem rather triangular shaped. They should probably be more of an oval or circle shape, depending on the breed of cat. I also suggest removing the white from her eyes, due to the fact that cat's eyes have no white. Her ears could also use some work. Usually, when one looks at a cat from straight on, they can only see the insides of their ears, and not the outside. I would also add some fur on the inside of her ears. Also, her paws look a bit small. The only other thing I can spot is that the back paw(s) should be visible from under the tail.

Again, I really love this piece! Keep up the good work!

Ferry, this is an exceptional piece of art you had given, but I do have some stuff to say a bit. cx

Vision: I really enjoy how you drew this, and how you drew the markings too! The colors are nice and soft, and blend in magnificently.

Originality: Even if this is skillful and inspiring, it's pose is ceased to be.. "new". What I mean by that, is how it turned out. It seems bland, or frequently used, I should say. Overall, though, it is very creative for a "cartoonish" and/or fiction drawing. What I might suggest for you to try is looking at others artwork or real life photography and get some ideas for poses on what your next piece of work may be based on.

Technique: Your lines are nice and smooth, not choppy and unsettling feeling (unlike mine, which are choppy and unsettling) but what I see in the picture, is a large bump on their back that feels so.. painful. What I think you could do to improve of that, is to make it a sort of hump that makes an easy feeling of it being "liquify" or feeling of water. You could say.. It would make you feel like that when looking at this: [link]
And for the face, you may want to try and make the lower part just a slight bit more large on the jaw, as say you would grab the lines on the chin and slightly pull it down so that you would have a bit more room for the lower jaw. The underbelly seems a bit too slanted down from the chest, unless the cat has long fur there. Try to shape it with the back when you are drawing.

Impact: Overall, the entire drawing does give me the feeling of peace and gentleness. The look on her face is quite enthusiastic, and appears to give her a better attitude. I really do feel quite a bit of improvement in my own expressions too! I feel softer now.

Thank you, coloring has always been a strong point for me ^_^

I'm glad it had a nice visual impact on ya, I was going for the soft, kind look X3

I wanted to use a pose I've seen often that looked to be fairly easy to do to start out. Since it started out as a traditional drawing I wanted to be comfortable with the pose and how the anatomy would work/look before decided to do harder and more elaborate poses, if you know what I mean.

I hadn't really noticed the bump until you said something about it, and honestly I was just using it as just a rather long bodied character or something, not sure what I was thinking. I think it was late at night and I didn't want to bother with fixing it since I didn't know how and just called it good as an overall effect.
And with the head I see what you mean, but as I was using a friend's art work as a reference I just went with the same head style that she uses in one of her pictures and liked how it looked. Looking at the belly I understand your meaning and will definitely work on that later in other pictures as I continue working and trying to get better.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the picture so much, and thank you for having the longest and most well thought-out critique These are the ones I enjoy getting the most.

My pleasure, Ferry~
It's always good to hear the pros and cons of drawings from other people.
It gives you a better view of it and helps you to increase on those particular points~

Oh wow Ferry ;o; This is a great improvement, I love this style change! The anatomy looks a lot smoother and realistic in this piece, especially the ears and eyes. I love those ears. ;o; One thing up with the anatomy that I see though is that you should be able to see the back paw coming out from behind the tail. You should be able to see the other back leg and paw as well.
The tail looks gloriously floofy and the whole thing just looks really clean and pretty. An overall great improvement, and I hope this new style continues to develop and get better.

I like the ears too XD

>_> I couldn't figure out how to draw the foot and make it look right so I 'hid' it with the tail XD

I'm glad you like iiiit! I was expecting more from you/a longer critique since you tend to go really in depth about stuff but the fact that you called this good makes me really happy

I love this!! I think it's one of your bests. Even if you referenced, I'm fine with referencing. It's the best way to learn! The pose has so much personality in it, with one raised paw I can see that she is intelligent, curious; the look on her face and the position of her tail only add to it's mood.
The markings are BEAUTIFUL, just so pretty. I love the strands of fur on her tail, so delicate.
Oh my god, the eyes! They're so pretty and so full of emotion.
Some of the people in the chat were saying her head is to small and her rump is to bid--no way! Nooooooooo way. I give the proportions a thumbs up.
Shading would have been beautiful on this though! D8
One of your bests yet!

Ferry-chan In reply to MagaSushi [2012-01-16 02:35:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes, this is one of my best <3 I honestly had trouble thinking up a pose for her given her personality wasn't all too big but I made do with what I thought might work and out popped this

I admin that her tail placement is because I was having a lot of trouble with her leg/foot so I pretty much cheated about that, but I think it ends up adding to the effect of her pose.

Her head might seem a bit small though, but it would have looked smaller if I had kept the original thicker chest/neck area, so I'm happy that I narrowed it some more XD

I think I'll work on shading pictures later when I've gotten more used to this style and such, you know? But that you so much for the critique! <3

Tail placement? XD How so?

It was... Oh... Um... I think it was a watchers named Rose's idea to do that.

Oh, please XD It's only luck that it was that good.

She really is my best work. I drew her out on paper first before line-arting her and I enjoyed her colors X3 I've always been a fan of gray cats so I really liked this one Although I did want to go over-board on her stripes tho XD

No problem, I enjoyed it :3

Haha thats an awesome way to do it! I find that doing things traditionally first as it can somtimes change the outcome of the final line art and piece
Haha your like me. WHen i first designed her, i was just like WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE with the stripes but then i settled down XD

LOL Well it's just easier for me to draw on paper with a pencil then use my mouse to make the line-art. So that's just how things worked out is all.

I love stripes <3
