Another Jethi character of mine and one of the main protagonists in Homeseeker.

Ardal is a dock worker at Starport Kenzie on a planetoid along an interstellar cargo lane. Helps in offhand loading, but specializes in security and inspection. As such, he’s licensed to carry an EM phaser at his side for defense—mainly fires a high frequency cone of radio energy as a stun weapon, but it has an electromagnetic disruptor or setting for critical situations.

The medal he wears is a hand-me-down from his clan. His mother was a tactical star pilot and his father served as medic in the same wars Doctor Bravon fought in.

Unlike Kameilo, Ardal’s clan of Jethi is from planet Valgenta, a rockier world than the oceanic Marea. How Jethi ended up on two planets, knowing nothing of each other, is a mystery, and it’s possible these people come from another planet entirely. Intriguingly, just like Kameilo’s people, Ardal’s clan vanished without a trace. He grew up under the stewardship of a botonist named Dregan on planet Haron in an underground colonial settlement where a natural reservoir of oxygen allows for a cavernous atmosphere beneath the inhospitable surface. Due to limited exposure to bright sunlight, Ardal developed sensitive eyes. The sunglasses he wears protect his eyes. Though he still takes them off when safely able to, to be polite.

He’s a soft spoken individual, seems quiet and shy in most social instances, though he’s daring to do what’s right for others when matters get bad—even if it means challenging laws in some colonies that fail to protect the innocent and taking matters to protect others into his own four hands. He doesn’t have a criminal record of his own, but there are concerns of his reputation in the books of authorities of the Sitrina cluster.
