"I sent you to destroy the Reapers and now I've got green circuitry on my skin and can interface with my staff. Care to explain the leap of logic between these two events?"
TBH, though, I quite liked the endings. Synthesis wasn't sufficiently foreshadowed, but the rest was alright.

No, it wasn't. The endings don't relate to the story as a whole and it obliterates the 'suspension of disbelief'. I can go on for hours about this. But I'll let this guy do it. He's got a degree.

People always seem to forget that destroying the Reapers has been the Good Guys' ultimate goal from the first time they met Sovereign, while controlling them was a major subplot of the second and third game. (Control is the easy way out, but has the uncertainty of success, at least when in character.) Synthesis did come out of left field, even considering Leviathan. I have no idea why the endings would break your WSoD, keeping in mind that the Catalyst is essentially an overpowered VI.

Destroy was the best of a shittily-explained/handled trio of choices--I refuse to believe that the Catalyst was telling the truth when it told Shepard that even with my maxed out EMS,Β Destroy would kill EDI and the Geth. They just got damaged.

The suspension of disbelief is broken mainly by one thing. One big thing. The Crucible. The idea that one device can destroy the Reapers OR control them OR alter all life in the galaxy, synthetic or organic, into a brand new kind of life form is absolutely ridiculous. Only magic can do that. Space magic. Mass Effect excels in making its sci-fi elements feel real by grounding them with boundaries we can easily accept. Mass Effect tech isn't real, but I learn enough from the game and the codex that I forget it's fiction in the moment. Suspension of disbelief. The Crucible seems limitless in possibilities and is found that way all at once. Plus, no notes on what it does? Just how to build it? Magic everywhere in this bitch!

Then by that same logic, the Reapers also break your WSOD. Their whole point is that they are too old and magnificient to be comprehended by a mortal mind.

If you read Lovecraft, you'll see why understanding the Reapers is not only irrelevant but takes away part of what makes them great. But that doesn't bother me. Even they have set limits, though. The Crucible functions like it came out of Hogwart's. It doesn't feel possible. Thus, it breaks SoD.

All the Crucible does is amplify the Catalyst's processing powers and, possibly, data transfer possibilities. If that -- it's very possible that the Crucible is nothing but an incentive designed by the Catalyst for organics to contact it.

Perfect example of why a 4-5 year game shouldn't be pushed out in 2.

Thank EA for the push and for dragging the lead writer away to work on SWTOR. That worked out great. Endings don't have to be complicated. Kill the Reapers. The End. Just accomplishing the goal the whole series revolved around is satisfying enough. That's how that shit works.

My reaction to the endings exactly.
Also, Hackett and his VA look more similar than I thought.
