This was a request I owed ParisNJones from all the way back in January (IIRC) for placing in a commenting contest I held. She's gone through a couple of costume changes since she wore this look.

Storm had so many memorable looks over the years, but this was one of her best. Kris Anka has a knack for designing some good modern era superhero costumes. Somehow he combined different elements from the past (like bringing back the mohawk, her old school cape, etc.) with current aesthetics. You did a good job rendering it, as well making her look regal and bad ass at the same time.

I know a lot of people are obsessed with her mohawk, but I wish they'd gone with the gorgeous ponytail look that Anka had in some of the design mock-ups. I think it's regressive to go back to a look that was kind of dated even back when it debuted especially since it kind of diminishes the importance thematically of why it was done in the first place.

Seriously though, I love this outfit. I love, love, LOVE this outfit. The colouring, the line work, the overall design itself. And the hair is fantastic as well! Can't ever go wrong with having that hairstyle on her. I actually went back to read the original issues where Storm first had her Mohawk and it's just fabulous, so I'm always a sucker for seeing her sporting one.

I'm actually not a big fan of the mohawk. Like at all. It had its day in the sun in the '80s (which even then was kind of dated), but returning her to it seems regressive and diminishes the importance of why it was done in the first place. I also think it's lazy from a design standpoint. There are a million different drastic hairstyles one can go with. Why go with one that's not even trendy anymore? For nostalgic fuzzies?

Presumably, yes. I'd honestly love to see artists be more creative with her and not go back to such a dated hairstyle. Hell, why not actually play with various Black hairstyles? She wore braids once upon a time. It just kind of rubs me the wrong way that people are so obsessed with a hairstyle that's so firmly rooted in an aesthetic I associate almost exclusively with white people. She's a Black heroine. Why not celebrate that fact with her visuals?

I liked Storm's appearances with the braids. Hell, I always thought that some interesting designs could be done if they gave her dreads. There's a lot of creativity to be had there.

Definitely! Braids, twists, and locs would keep her looking fresh and modern. I weirdly find the mohawk ages her and makes her seem matronly (probably because I know that it's not a hairstyle people really wear anymore as it is depicted in the comics).
