A quick gift for for her birthday. Hope you like it!
I tried a bit of a different style than I usually do. Trying to go for a more expressive, simple, cute style.

What first struck me about this piece were the expressive eyes. They pull a lot of the attention towards them. The raised eyebrow creates a slightly silly look, but it's adorable.
This is a headshot, and for a fully colored, shaded one with background it's quite interesting to look at, so in that aspect you did well, but I'm afraid I can't give you too many points for originality dus to the nature of the piece. I do feel that you've given an unique spin to the concept by making this headshot be a bit more expressive than they usually are, and by adding in a beautifully done background that fits with the expressive theme.
When it comes to technique I would like to say that I can see a great amount of technique in this piece, such as the highlights in the hair, the shading and the background. Dramatic lighting sets the scene.
Overall I think the impact of this piece is quite big, especially considering the fact that you had so little to work with - somebody else's character, and only from the shoulders up. You could've made this piece a lot simpler, but I think the effort was worth the while when you look at the final result.
The only suggestion that I have is one concerning the lighting. I can see that your light source is very strong by the strength of the shadows - but I would've liked to see some lighter colored linework on the right side of the character, or some even brighter lights, without being smoothed out. This would add to the dramatic nature of the piece. I also believe that the shadow on the nose bridge could've been toned down a bit, since the transition between nose and face is not as dramatic as it looks here.
Overall this is a very beautiful and ratifying piece.
