I'm so proud of this piece. I swear I leveled up drawing this. lol
Drawn without a sketch and mostly on one layer for each of them, and with one main brush for 90% of it, and I have to say, it was so much fun drawing this one. 
Shere Khan from The Jungle Book, based off the new movie which I saw last weekend. (It was awesome!)
I thought it was brilliant when he was telling the wolf cubs a story about how the cuckoo bird lays her egg in a nest of another bird and so that bird must work hard to take care of the cuckoo chick that isn't her's. And in doing so, kills her real babies. It was a subtle threat that because the wolf raised a human, she was putting her own cubs at risk by trying to protect Moogli. It was such an awesome subtle threat.
I can't believe this came out exactly how I envisioned it. I'm so happy with it! XDΒ

Where to begin... there are just so many things about this painting that make me feel like I'm watching the Jungle Book again. However, this time, I feel like I'm not watching from the theatre. I feel like in this, that I've been drawn into the scene itself, watching as Shere Khan gives his lecture to the wolf pups. When I first saw that scene, I was tense as a spring, fearing that Shere Khan would devour the pups as a punishment for Raksha. What the tiger did instead made my skin crawl and my hair stand on end. He used his lecture as a way of punishing Raksha, and subtly threatened the pups in front of her before letting them go to make his message sink in. In many ways, this is a homage to Kipling's original tale, in which he influences the younger wolves against Akela and Mowgli. That someone would recreate this scene has been a hope of mine for some time. It just shows you how evil Shere Khan truly is. The scary part is... Shere Khan was essentially right in many respects, and that message proves true when you see the cuckoo he talks of in the next scene. I have to say that this painting captures the spirit of that moment; Shere Khan's threat, the tension felt by the viewer, and the innocent, slightly scared wolf pup looking out in fear as Shere khan shifts his paw to block his way... It feels so realistic that I half-expect Shere Khan to say "I think they like me." in that malevolent tone as the wolf pup leaves. Overall, I think it's safe to say this piece represents a perfect look into the tone of the story and the depth of it's villain's evil.

This is gorgeous! I haven't seen the movie yet but I love the novel, and I think you did a great job portraying the power of Shere Khan vs the innocence of the wolf puppy! The fur looks great and I particularly like the tiger's ears for some reason.
