Description Hi there,

This is another concept for my book project The CrowsΒ΄ Parliament. As you can see is an homage to Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows and the wonderful art of Arthur Rackham. In my book some of the characters of Graham's book (and from other victorian child book classics) appear in a very different and pop-surrealistic way. I hope you like it.

Done in Photoshop CS3 with a Wacom Cintiq 12WX.I'll post the process and some details in my blog: [link]
Comments and critics are most welcome, thanks

Wow, that's extremely nice! Would you mind if I used your picture? We are setting up a reading event in Milan, next November 19th, and I'm looking for some fine art inspired by a certain type of British literature, and this would fit perfectly. Of course you would be fully credited and all the terms in your license will be respected.
I'd love to receive your approval.
Warm regards,

Agreed. The pleasant balance you have here between really minute detail, and yet a cohesive composition is really well done. The color scheme is very Rackham, and yet the characters are clearly your own. What kind of tool are working with in PS for the lineart? Looks like a lot of pencil work for the detail- it's very specific and deliniated, but the opacity is low. It's not overbearing.

The atmospheric perspective is nice too. The dark/heavy tree is the foreground and the troll (?) far away give the scene a nice push and pull.

It's a very nice composition all in all. I wish I'd drawn it!

Thank you very much, and answering your question, I used a regular soft brush for the lineart of this one

This is quite cool, I'm really enjoying the style in which you did this and "welcome to steam town". Both look pretty cool and these subtle tones work well. But while I realize that it is stylized, I think I would like it to work better in a sense of space...The elements don't seem very connected to each other, and you kind of wonder where the car is driving. It seems stuck between these roots and plants, actually. Also I miss a clear focus. The guy in the car, the one on the right and the building behind them both seem kind of equal in weight...a clearly dominating focal point would make this a stronger piece, I think. Right now they seem to frame the middle of the piece, but there is not really much to discover.
But I hope you don't mind these critiques, because otherwise this is definitely cool looking and I'm curious to see what will follow.

Nice work!
Daniel
