Description Finally got my Video Card upgrade!

Now I got a quite cheap, but much a better video card than before - nVidia GeForce 6200 With 256 MB DDR and fully DirectX 9.0 compatible (unlike my old 4200)

I also got a extra 512 MB of RAM, and the performance change is noticeable, a little. So now I have 1.5 GB of ram which is between the minimum (1GB) and perfect (2 GB)
Even though they wre supposed to put it in a extra slot, that way i could have 2 GB, but it's not really such a big difference anyway.

Aero is really sweet in my opinion, and not slow at all, in fact it runs no slower than basic, so I think I will be using it all the time. The full vista ultimate experience is much much better with aero! Not to mention that I'll get enhanced graphics in games, will be able to run movie maker etc.
I'm going to switch to vista as the full time OS now, maybe do some customization later.

I won't abandon XP completely though, I might make some changes to Aero Ultimate, since I got the real deal now.

I also recommend everyone who is still on XP to try vista, it's JUST AWESOME!

4gb and a q6600 @ 2.4 ghz is NOT perfect, it's middle class
6 GB and Core i7 is perfect.

By today's standards, it's a standard, aka medium.
All notebooks come with 4GB now

My score got up to 3.2 after I installed all correct drivers accelerators for the card. (full use of TurboCache)
And that's a medium 19-20" LCD display (actually 19.5")

Nice, but this isn't the latest version of Windows Vista is it (i.e. Service Pack 1)???

If you are going to reinstall the pirated version, I recommend installing Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 and use an activator instead of a timer-lock. I would have told you where to find the activation crack but its against the rules on this site, but I can still email you the link if you want.

By the way, which processor have you got, and how much did your 3d card cost you (in dollars, please)...

fediaFedia In reply to salmanarif [2008-08-23 12:07:51 +0000 UTC]

SP1 causes ome problems with activation, and take forever to install so i don't bother, but you can send a link by email anyway.

My processor is AMD Athlon 2400+, it scores lower than usual coz i installed vista in a slow drive...
The card was like 40 bucks, and I'm quite happy with it

One thing, your Vista doesn't give you more than 3,3 in processor? My intel celeron M 520 gives me 3,8 (it has 1,6 Ghz), and my ram 4,4 and my HDD 5,2, and your hardware is better than mine

And, is that an legal Vista Ultimate? xD

fediaFedia In reply to trygator [2008-08-12 10:58:56 +0000 UTC]

I think the reason vista shows lower scores here - it's because I installed it on my old slow Samsung 40 GB drive, therefore all benchmark tests are lower. While on XP (installed on E:\) benchmarks are higher. I remember i had vista installed on F:\ (a partition on the new drivers) WEI scores were better Oo. Gonna reinstall this pirated vista version soon

Finally, now maybe I can see one of your Vista themes
But... I don't recommend upgrading to SP1, it gave me a LOT of problems, and it's activation is hard to break. But now I'm an genuine customer (3 vista keys, Home Basic, home premium and Business ). Well, finally you have aero, so, good luck with vista!

(Vista it's a lot better than XP )

Yeah, I tried SP1 before, and yet i didn't notice any performance boosts Oo But on this OEM edition i can seem to get access to windows update anyway
I might make some themes for vista later, and yes, vista is much better than XP, I only use XP for some games

o..Windows Longhorn is the best if will have driver support...why?

because is the perfect balance between consumption of resources and UI experience..(Aero)

what do u think?

Longhorn is a not completed alpha build of a OS, not designed to be used every day.

Yes Windows Vista Aero Glass looks awesome, but the system are slow run on my PC. Maybe I test on my new processor.

fediaFedia In reply to Martin008 [2008-08-09 10:19:24 +0000 UTC]

Indeed it is awesome! But it doesn't require a powerful processor, my 5 year old AMD Athlon 2 GHz does the job perfectly, even with dreamscene

Do you play computer games?
Maybe in this evening I install Windows Vista Ultimate
My computer:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2,4ghz @ 2,76ghz (overclock)
2GB Kingston DDR2
Gigabyte GeForce 8600 GTS 256mb
I'll try games with Dx10: Crysis, Lost Planet, Gears of War and Assassin's Creed.
Earlier I have Intel Pentium IV 3.00 Ghz and my result of Windows Vista System performance rating are 4,2 . I test Vista on February this year.
I buy the new proccessor in 18 July 2008
Maybe the performance it will be better.

Is your copy the one with the Dell logos everywhere, never liked that one that much. About your RAM. Do you have 1 stick of 1gb and 1 of 512? Because for your computer having an even number of Same speed and size RAM, will actually be faster, running in dual channel mode. And about switching, You could always Use virtual machine..which will also allow you to use the O/S in full screen mode, you would never no the difference. or dual boot. and with either I could help you with,

fediaFedia In reply to M-2The-O-Squared [2008-08-08 08:50:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's a OEM BIOS release, also the 2 RAMs are both from apacer, and are same speed only different size.

Are they running in Dual channel, or does your motherboard support that?

If you had a 4200, that means you have an AGP slot, like me?
Cool, I've been looking at a graphics and RAM upgrade too but don't wanna spend the $$.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fediaFedia In reply to ChocSoldier [2008-08-07 20:55:00 +0000 UTC]

Yep, it's a AGP slot.
You can buy a aero capable card even for 20-30 bucks (a new one), you could ask your parrents for advance allowance or something

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChocSoldier In reply to fediaFedia [2008-08-08 11:08:58 +0000 UTC]

Could find nothing for the price.
It's all PCIe.
Cheapest I can find is GeForce FX5500, which seems pretty crappy. I was hoping for at least a 6600 or 7600.

Also, RAM is the biggest problem, stupid Dell.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Fishy-Fish In reply to ChocSoldier [2008-08-09 03:18:32 +0000 UTC]

Actually, cheapest is GeForce FX 5200 128 Megs RAM and runs Aero

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

fediaFedia In reply to Fishy-Fish [2008-08-09 10:24:03 +0000 UTC]

Some ATI Radeon is even cheaper and can run aero.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fishy-Fish In reply to fediaFedia [2008-08-09 18:35:21 +0000 UTC]

Well, I think only the ATi Radeon 9500 is the lowest that can run Aero.

ChocSoldier In reply to Fishy-Fish [2008-08-09 09:47:28 +0000 UTC]

Correct, but none of the shops here in Australia have the 5200 in stock anymore.
I'd prefer something mid-range though.
