Such a cutie!
I´m not a huge fan of hairless rats for many reasons, but it´s very cute
Would he/she have been a pew if it had fur?

Maybe, her mom is a furless siamese rat. So I guess if she had fur to show it could of gone either way.

Probably..
I don´t understand squat about genetics

My main reason not to breed..
If you don´t understand it/ care, don´t breed..
Rats already live short enough

Yeah, her mother is a rescue, and the pet store was dim enough to breed two furless rats together which results in a lot of health problems. I'm surprised that all ten made it past their pup stage.
Sadly ones heart suddenly failed this morning... there were no warning signs of it coming. She just passed away, she was very sweet... I'm going to miss her

Which it is a lesson in its self, people need to know the effects of breeding certain rats together.

Aww poor thing
Yeah they do..
I´ve had people not understand why it´s bad to breed petstore rats..
Pretty much all the pet store rats around here are from the same place..
Almost every time I cleaned the cage(Specially if they were females..) at least one would attack me and draw blood.. A lot of blood..
One time one of them was sitting on the other side of the cage and ran over to chomp at my finger....
It´s very sad
I would love to breed healthy rats.. But since I don´t understand genetics(and would never be able to give them away..)
The closest thing I might become, is lending out bucks for breeding if they meet the breeding standards..

It's pretty simple if your not doing furless.
The mother is the rat who gives most the genetics, the father is only there to help make the baby. So if the dad has a respiratory issue, the pups will be less likely to get it, then if the mother had issues.
You just need a healthy friendly doe, and buck (to lower the chances of behavior or health issues)
And the day after birth start picking them up and loving them. Mom rat usually wont mind a break from the pups.
other than health and behavior I don't know much else about genetics.
I personally don't like breeding, because there are so many rats that need happy homes.
But the ratties there seem pretty vicious, so breeding may be a good idea if there are people who want one but are scared of being bit

Yeah I guess..
But you have also the chances of Megacolon, that at least partially follow colors and markings..
In my opinion, if you´re going to breed, you need to KNOW genetics, and actually understand it..
I don´t.. For me, it´s probably easier to learn Icelandic(that, if I remember correctly, is one of the hardest languages to learn)..
My knowledge limits itself to knowing some colors and markings..
And of course how to care for them..

Thats all you really need, you don't need to know about chromosomes and cell division to breed happy healthy rats

No you don´t, but you need to know what colors/markings bring what diseases..
I know about high white, but I´ve never understood exactly what markings it is..(obviously it´s markings with a lot of white, but which ones..)
I´ll never breed anyway tho, because I would just end up keeping them all

Exactly
I have trouble keeping the amount I can afford and have time for.. So adding gorgeous babies to the equation probably isn´t smart

he's beautiful. i do agree that he shouldn't be exposed to so much light at that age, though

Its eyes are pink like its moms and this picture the pups just started to open their eye (thats why they're squinty).
I have 10 babies to pick from so they never get their picture taken for too long. don't worry
