Description This is my very first drypoint print!!!

10 x 8 cm

I'm beginning to learn this traditional way, I'm very excited!.

Drypoint is a printmaking technique of the intaglio family, in which an image is incised into a plate (or "matrix") with a hard-pointed "needle" of sharp metal or diamond point. Traditionally the plate was copper, but now acetate, zinc, or plexiglas are also commonly used. Like etching, drypoint is easier for an artist trained in drawing to master than engraving, as the technique of using the needle is closer to using a pencil than the engraver's burin.

that's a wonderful drypoint print!! you've got an amazing range of greys here. kudos to you. i've done two drypoint pieces and i have to say, they didn't turn out too great. i know how hard this process is and you've done it beautifully

whoa this is awesome! A completely different style to any dry-points i've seen....
what did you etch into?

farboart In reply to kettle-rocking-one [2008-04-04 22:14:40 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!
Did it over a Zinc metal plate, its very sensible so you can make very tiny lines ^^

yeh cool... the detail is amazing.
i love the design too... is there a specific meaning/symbolism behind it or is it just an awesome design?

Thanks!
There's no special symbolism behind it... only random abstract shapes

this is a lovely print!
if you're interested, try etching into a ubex sheet. plexi glass produced sharper lines, which i'm guessing you used, while ubex produces a "burr" i believe its called, which is a burrow that happens when you scratch into it. The burr makes blurrier, but not so noticeable, which is an interesting technique to try.

Thank you very much! glad you like it
This is my very first one... so I dont know pretty much about what you're telling me
Now I want to try with sugar and acid to attack specific parts, ive seen pretty cool results with that...

Lemon-Yoghurt In reply to farboart [2008-04-04 20:16:03 +0000 UTC]

wait, did you do a dry point or an actual etch with acid? they are completely different techniques, though i haven't tried the one with acid yet. if you did dry point, you most likely etched into plexi glass, which is why i was saying that a ubex sheet, which is like a plastic glass (kinda) is a different medium. It'll will produce different prints than plexi for sure.

I did drypoint over a ZINC metal plate.
That's the cool thing of this technique, you can actually mix both, drypoint for details and acid for big parts, havent did it yet, hope for next one
Cheerz!

yes it can take quite a lot of time, but this one is small, took me one week

I rarely finish any drawing that takes more than 2 days XD so one week would be a lot to me

btw... nice quote on your signature, would be nice if you add "-Mahatma Gandhi"

Aelanessa In reply to farboart [2008-04-03 19:53:10 +0000 UTC]

I prefer not to add names to the quotes I post in my signature. I believe that people should agree to this quote by Ghandi because they feel that way in their heart, not simply because he was the one who said it (no offense to Gandhi of course, that man's my hero)
