I really like the contrast between how pale, solid (and calm) Aragorn is, compared to the storm of barely-controlled nightmares at his back; and there's an excellent feeling of something being about to spill over, or burst, as though hell were literally about to break loose.
The colour palette is unexpected but completely works, and I love the lighting on Aragorn.
I'm also fascinated by his foot placement, as though he were stepping as carefully as a dancer, or at any second about to turn round and confront his (maybe) army.
I also like that the skulls/eyeholes of the Dead Army looks reminiscent of architecture, as though the mass behind Aragorn is simultaneously the ghosts, and also the ghost city.
The movement, the confusion, and the *density* of the ghosts (and how they're piled up behind him) make for a very powerful composition.

I'd have liked to see a bit more variety among the ghosts perhaps - I love that there's a sword visible here and there - and would like to see more details, or things that mark particular soldiers out as different. Maybe armour, of a crown, or a shield, or even a ghosty horse.
And there might be an even greater sense of depth, or scale, if some of the skulls were different sizes, getting smaller into the distance.

But those are small things really, I love this. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

thanks for the critique

I'm glad that you like the pallete, because I was little bit usure there- I tried version in more colder/blue colours  too but I just liked this violet/yellow
I found that I often use dancing poses because...it's easier to catch the "movement" with these ...and it's hard for me to draw a figure in still pose

yop, I think if I'll draw this scene again I would like to play with desing of the ghost army...here I was trying just to catch ghostly atmosphere of the army,as it's described in books (I think army there is almost invisible )

I think what you've done (having them as 'a mass') works so much better than having various dead soldiers wandering around - now they look like a sort of swarm, or storm cloud, or some other terrifying force of nature that's more than the sum of its parts.

And isn't it odd about the colour palette? I'd have been tempted to go for cold colours as well, but this works so much better: it's a sickly, unwholesome light, which suits the subject perfectly. (And better than the nuclear green they used in the movie, which looked a bit like Ghostbusters.)

Very Nice. Love the overall style. Makes me think of a Edward Gorey painting or  Guillermo del Toro style of fantasy. Has a dark fairy tale feel to it.
