thanks! that what I was going for! I know I personally need a visual step by step when I am trying something, so I did it in a way that would be easy for me XD *googles character* oh really pretty, good luck with you project ^^

Oh this looks fantastic!! We've been debating on trying to buy one for a stock shoot, but making one would definitely be easier (and lord knows I spend enough time at home depot lol). So yes, thanks so much for this!

Can you drape fabric over this? I'm trying to make an open front cage skirt and I think I'll use this as the method but I'm not 100% sure yet

it is possible to drape fabric over it, but I recommend that you make your starting point closer to your tummy, that way it is easier to see the fabric more from a front view

Amazing and thorough tutorial! This is so easy to follow, which is much appreciated by someone who takes forever to understand things like me! I'm not sure if I would be brave enough to wear anything with a bustle cage although I absolutely *LOVE* them and the one you have made here. Maybe I will gain some confidence and do this - it just looks so tempting not to! If I do, I will definitely credit and link.
You must have looked phenomenal as the queen of the changelings! Being this innovative with the cosplay must have made for an awesome time! And congratulations on the very earned DD! I cannot wait to check out your other tutorials and hopefully a picture of the Queen Chrysalis costume!

would a box cutter be safer for your fingers?
did you perforate the edges before cutting?
(razorblades are no bueno...)

I am sure box cutters would be just as fine, but I used this d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/… because it would go in deep enough so that I could carve out a circle. Almost like pumpkin carving

well i realized you were using an exacto, but the blade is not very secure at the base which makes it difficult to control at times. ive noticed that they tend to actually come loose when you try to use them for cutting something thats particulary thick...

sorry when you said razor blades it kind of threw me off, sorry about that. I would have used a box cutter but the blade was too thick, but luckily the tubing i was using was pretty thin, but I am sure you could use both

I know this obviously isn't directed as my but I thought I might put my 2 cents in anyways <3
Box cutters are larger and bulkier making it harder to control and in some cases harder to actually see the blade when you're working really close. It would probably be more likely to slip if you used a box cutter for something like this

well the box cutter has casing which better secures the blade and protects your fingers
the reason i wrote this is that box cutters are more suitable for thick materials.
ive been using exacto blades for years, and they are really only good for cutting paper.
plastic dulls exactos much quicker than box cutters as well

hmm you're probably right, but I'd still use an exacto knife, I dont trust myself with box cutters for some reason
