Description
Crashes, bangs, moans, and the sounds of things crashing into the walls. That's what you've been hearing every night since your family moved into this 'new' house. You always hear it coming from the basement, you being on the first floor and your room not far from the cellar door. But everyone else's rooms were upstairs so they didn't hear a thing. They didn't listen to what you said. Not that they'd believe you anyway.
The noises always started when it became dark and even though you weren't scared of much, you'd seen a few to many movies and read to many stories to go check it out. It didn't help that most nights you were alone in the house because your parents were out working or whatever they do for most of the night.
Twice you'd gone into the basement, in broad daylight of course, and looked around. It was a crowded mess of junk and weird jars and gardening supplies from the houses' last owner. But you had found nothing to explain the sounds that had been emitting from the cold stone room that had no lights and only one small window. Maybe you had imagined it every time it happened? But no such luck. it happened again that night, even on the days you had checked. You decided not to check for any extremely noisy ghosts for awhile.
Think you'd be used to it after two months? nope! it still bothered you to no end. But tonight you were going to face your fears of serial killers or creepypasta's hanging out in your basement. You had decided this around 12:30 when you had gotten frustrated by the third noise disrupting you from watching FairyTail.
Re-pausing your video, you grabbed your best flashlight and set towards the doorway to the nightly unknown. You could practically hear the 'something's about to happen' music as you got closer. A loud crash echoed from the closed door making you question actually opening it. Going against your better judgment and ready to die by whatever horrors await, you opened it and quickly switched on and lifted your flashlight.
Even though you weren't dead yet you almost had a heart attack from what you saw. Through the floating dust your flashlight illuminated a pale face with glazed eyes, part of the mouth of the person seemed to have been ripped off. Your eyes widened and without giving it a second thought you dropped your flashlight and slammed the cellar door shut, running back to your room and locking the door behind you.
Panting heavily with your heart beating a mile a minute, you leaned against the door not comprehending what you just saw and feeling a little light headed. You pushed your desk in front of the locked door and fell on your bed. Hoping if anything were to come and kill you, your hamster would protect you.

The next few days went past rather uneventfully, aside from slightly quitter than usual noises in the basement and the fact you were now freaked out and paranoid beyond belief.
You had talked to a few friends about the matter but they either looked at you like you were crazy or thought you were joking. But you being you, you needed to find out what was down there. You just couldn't stay safe and forget about it. You were going back to the basement.
You sat in your room waiting for the noises to start. Ever since you had tried investigating before the noises were a lot quieter, they still happened but were quieter.
But it was just too creepy for your tastes having a unknown something or other living in the basement that was oh so wonderfully close to you. After borrowing another flashlight from somewhere and drinking a few gallons of soda in hopes to have such a sugar high you could outrun anything, it was time to go back to the basement.
____________________________________________________
A few minutes ago you had heard a creaking sound but nothing since, had they (whatever 'they' were) come and gone already? Slowly you opened the door trying not to make much noise in hopes of not alerting them of your arrival.
Inside you noticed something on the ground lighting up the room slightly. Shining your flashlight on it you saw it was the flashlight you dropped last time, turned on and standing up on the other side of the room. It somehow could have rolled itself into standing up over there from when you dropped it, right?
You shined the flashlight around. You breathe hitched and you saw what looked to be a boy, he had his legs drawn up and his arms wrapped around them, you couldn't see his face though, his head was down hiding in his arms. But what really caught your attention was the exposed flesh on his arm and ribcage, it wasn't even bleeding and it looked as if his foot was replaced by bones.
Trying hard not to run to his side to help him you kept the lights beam directly on him "Hello? You alright?" you asked with shaky voice, while staying in the doorway so if needed you could bolt like a bat outta hell.
Slowly he lifted his head and you gasped. It was the face you saw before, part of his cheek was torn off and there was a cut above his lip, he had darkish blue hair and what looked to be golden eyes that turned white, like he had caterax.
He sniffled and looked up at you, he looked so sad and helpless "H-hel-lo" he answered quietly. "Why are you down here, what happened to you?" you said, cautiously stepping towards him "I l-live down h-here" he replied "You live in my basement? I haven't seen you here before" you asked, you were only about a foot away from him now. "Y-yes, w-well n-not this b-basem-ent but b-below it"
Now you were confused "You live under my basement? how?" you asked him "I-I've always lived h-here with father b-but then h-he just l-left me here a-lone" he said sadly looking down 'could his father have been the man who owned the house? and if so why did he leave him? and more importantly what did he do to him' you wondered.
"Don't you hurt?" you asked while gesturing to the open wounds. He shook is head slowly "N-no, they don't h-hurt. F-father can fix t-them like h-he always does, w-when he c-come back. He al-ways does. I just h-have to wait for him to c-come back. I've b-been w-waiting f-for so l-long. B-but fa-ther will c-come back" he said, not taking his eyes off the ground
You wanted to help him somehow, he looked so sad and lonely "Well, how would father help you? those wounds look really bad" you said slightly uncomfortable that they could get infected and that its not bothering him. "H-he would f-feed me. I haven't e-eaten in so l-long." he replied gloomily
"Well, what would you eat?"
~tiny Time skip brought to you by: Kankri. Kankri: It's very triggering to be brought into one of your stories and its especially triggering since you hadn't even asked my opinion on before such tri-
You were now sitting on the floor next to him while he ate all the raw meat you could find. He didn't want it cooked, just raw, you had learned that his father brought him dead animals and meats to eat. After he finished you asked "You said you lived under my basement, what did you mean?" he licked off one of his bone fingers and looked at you "D-down this w-way" he stood up and walked to the far wall and traced something on the side with his finger, the solid stone moved back and to the side silently, a door and through it a metal spiraling staircase, there were dim iron lanterns on the wall. Maybe half of them lit. It looked like the place you were entering was carved into smooth stones.
'Follow the boy you found in your basement that's covered in strange not bleeding wounds, who eats raw meat, and lives in a secret room under your house very smart (Y/n) nothing wrong with your logic' your brain chided as you followed him down the stairway. When you reached the bottom it opened to a large room built into the tan stone.
Along the walls iron lanterns holding candles lit the cavern-like place with a warm glow. Against one wall was a neatly made bed with poofy blankets and filled book cases and against another there were jars of who-knows-whats and small journals. The ceiling had a few small glistening stalactites
"You live down here?" you asked while looking around in amazement "Y-yeah father's had me live d-own here f-for a few y-years now. I d-didn't know any-one else l-lived up a-above but him I-I'm M-Max by t-the w-way" he said looking at his feet, his cheeks turning from pale to pink.
" I didn't know about anyone living below, and its nice to meet you Max, I'm (Y/n)."
You heard a popping sound come from him and watched as skin reformed and grew on his boney hand, his wounds were healing themselves. You watched amazed and Max quietly laughed and smiled at you
"Thats w-what h-happens when I-I have m-meat" he said and you looked at his face, his glassy, clouded eyes were becoming bright again revealing a beautiful shade of gold.

"Hey Maxy? did you ever go through all those journals?" You asked, using you nickname for him and pointing towards the desk against the far wall that was covered in small journals and stacks of papers "n-no, those are f-fathers" he said "Hmm I'm curious to what they're about did he tell you?"
"No, h-he wrote in t-them a lot b-but I couldn't r-read them he s-said"
"Max are you feeling alright are you hungry?" you said a little worried about him, he looked ready to fall over to be true.
He yawned and smiled at you, he always felt so special that you cared for him so much, he cared for you even more than you'd believe.
"I'm a-alright (Y-Y/n), just a l-little tired i-is all"
"Then take a nap you look ready to fall over!" You said and playfully pushed him towards his bed.
"N-no, I want to t-talk with y-you" he said while trying to sit up but was having problems staying awake.
"I'll be here when you wake up Maxy, I'll always be here"
Finally agreeing, mainly because he couldn't keep his eyes open, he layed down and immediately fell into a deep sleep.
You went over to the work table and started reading.
You sat reading for hours with a lantern next to you, all the journals were about Max, or how things worked with him. How different meats affected him, how he faired in different temperatures anything you could think of was written in them.
But then you found the last entry, dated a few days before you moved into this house.

I believe I have learned all I can from subject 294 aka Max. It has become a rather mundane and repertory task caring for him, getting no more use from the subject I shall end research upon him.
I have taken samples which should allow me to be able to use his form of healing process, a way to survive.
Now I will move onto working with subject 357 to try and find any useful genes I can store.
- Dr. Odraelier
It was the last entry in the latest journal. You couldn't believe what he had done. You recognized the name Odraelier as the name of the houses last owner, presumably Max's 'father'
You couldn't let him see this.
So you his it in your coats pocket for later desposal, ready to cry for what had happened to your sweet Max.
You looked over to his bed, he was still sound asleep.
Instead of waking him or leaving or continuing to read the evil mans writings you crawled onto the bed and fell asleep beside Max. Swearing to yourself that you would never abandon him.
Max had the best sleep in months, no more nightmares or dreams of being cold and alone abandoned in darkness
~Timeskip of about 2 months~
Each evening you'd go down to your basement and find Max there, you would go down to his cave/home and talk for hours, usually falling asleep on his bed.
You'd been doing this for weeks now, and that's were you were again, with Max
"This place really is amazing Max, a lot nicer than the basement. Why were you up there every night anyway?" you asked while laying down next to him on his bed "I w-would go up t-there to wait f-for father each n-night. It w-was dark s-so I b-bumped i-into things a-a l-lot." he said starring at the ceiling. "I'm sorry about your father Maxy I really am" you said and scooted closer to him and layed your head on his shoulder "I-its o-okay (Y/n), n-now each night I-I w-wait for y-you" he said blushing with a small smile
You smiled seeing his blush and rolled onto you elbows, hovering over him smiling and staring into his beautiful and full of life golden eyes and kissed him gently.
Some monsters just want to be loved~
