Description The last griffin I made was very pale so this time I decided to go for all out color! Also, I felt inspired by ~Carn-Dearg and all her parrot talk.

This guy is super friendly and cheerful, always ready for some fun. He is pretty hardy, too. Just make sure to feed him on time, 'cause he sure can raise a ruckus!

He's 8 inches long from tail to beak tip and 4 inches tall from toe to ear tip.

Needle felted wool over pipe cleaner with feathers and paper clay beak. The eyes are "stickers" used for fly fishing (awesome stuff!). The feathers are all my leftover feathers from other projects that kinda went together so there are a few minor flaws, like small holes and rough edges. That just adds to his personality, right?

I use a hot glue gun and try to apply the glue in a very small droplet on each feather. I layer the feathers so the glue is not visible when I'm finished.

Thank you! I'm so pleased you like it! The beak was so much fun to do.

are you gluing the feathers to the felt with the hot glue? Sounds like it might not hold, but I will keep that in mind! I did some wings recently where I stuck them into the felt, then sort of felted the downy parts of the feathers into the felt. Seemed to work pretty well but took forever!

Yeah just gluing the feathers onto the felt. Where the layering gets thicker, the feathers are glued to themselves. I was surprised at how sturdy it is. Wow, felting the feathers in! That's probably really secure and fantastic looking! The hot glue is very quick though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FamiliarOddlings In reply to fabular-mrfox [2011-11-12 19:56:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, he can! You have to be a little careful with the wings, but it's fairly easy to pose them.

This is adorable, your creatures always have such personality and flare. I adore his little feather ears I wana pet them.

FamiliarOddlings In reply to FoamWoods [2011-11-12 19:58:08 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! That is such a wonderful comment! The feather ears were kind of a last minute decision; surprisingly, I hadn't given the ears much thought until he was almost finished! He almost went earless, haha. I'm glad I put them on. ^_^
