Description First sketch from a new project of mine, the intention of which is to create visual references of the various strains of drakoon, which can be very different from each other. While drakoon suffer from a profound lack of genetic diversity as a species having come from a very small group of individuals, at least in Sloveniska, there still exists distinct genetic strains. (These are not distinct races however; these are closer to breeds of dog, thus my choice of word, strain.) For example, zinier (terrestrial soldiers) are genetically distinct from vinier (marine/naval soldiers) and they do not do well when their habitats are crossed, being specially adapted to their specific home environment and methods of fighting. (For example, zinier typically fight as-elf, on horseback, whereas vinier prefer fighting as-dragon, on wingtip and with cats. Vinier have very little use for horses while zinier depend tremendously upon their mounts and have a lesser relationship with cats in general. In contrast, vinier are usually found in the company of multiple cats, many of which are not actually bonded to any specific drakoon.)

I just adore how you render animals! So powerful, yet they work so well interacting with other characters!

Thanks! I actually drew this one a little different than I usually do because I've felt like the physical interactions between my horse-and-rider characters have been week in the past. In the end I think it'll always be a little awkward to sit one being on top of another but I do feel like this one is a touch better connected compositionally!
