As I was reading a Philippine music book, I saw this 1850s (I think) b&w photo of girls holding their musical instruments. So I tried to draw one girl holding a bandurria.

Okay, so what is this bandurria I'm talking about? Bandurria is a 14-stringed instrument played by plucking or doing tremolo with a plectrum. This originated from Spain (like the other stringed instruments like mandolin, mandola, laud), though the real origins of such stringed instruments was traced to be in the Middle East. During the Spanish colonization here in the Philippines, along with Christianity, the Spanish people brought their own culture (Okay I'll not elaborate Philippine history ).

Most of the kids today don't know that such weird looking instruments exist. Only a few universities and schools have their student rondallas. For more information about this, check this [link]
