what came first, the mermaid or the fish? or, who is mimicking whom? some of us believe everything we see in this world is a manifestation of the "spirit" behind the form. i am always looking for that initial spark^^anyways, these are longfin bannerfish, which...in my warped mind...is an angelfish. so, this is "gift-art" for who i was thinking of, while doing it^^

Hmm...I've always imagined that if merfolk had some sort of evolutionary beginning, I would think that it would have happened similar to that of dolphins and whales. You have a group of people who lived near the sea, and over a period of many years, they started spending more and more time in the water. Eventually, their legs gave way to fins. Of course, I would imagine that their fins would resemble cetean fins rather than piscene fins.
