I watched "Thor" on Friday and it was fantastic. Since the visual design of the film was immensely inspiring creatively, and since I thought the character of Loki as performed by Tom Hiddleston was outstandingly brilliant--even mesmerizing--, and certainly my favorite supervillain ever (along with Heath Ledger's Joker) I compromised by drawing the character. I got the reference off a movie poster but tweaked it a bit as always; I don't like relying entirely on single reference pics. It was fun using plain graphite again!So this picture comes with a recommendation that you watch "Thor". Yay!
Mechanical pencil, No. 2 pencil, kneaded eraser, graphite stick, and paper toweling for blending. About . . . three hours?

Beautiful blending. I love the use of the strong but minimal graphic line married with the more subtle shading. And though it's probably just a result of scanner junk, I really like how the whole thing is sepia-toned.

Thanks! I liked the sepia look too, sometimes scanner interference is fortuitous that way. I'd like to tackle pencil portraits again considering I think I've improved, but I have so little time.

I have to agree with every word you say- his performance was amazing, and the movie was brilliantly made.
Your drawing is really beautiful, I think it shows more emotion than the poster.

Thank you! That's what I meant by I try not to copy references exactly--I prefer to try to put my own interpretation of the character into the piece as well, so I'm glad you liked it

I know, they made his eyes green in all the posters I think . . . so it looks more striking with the green of his cape, maybe, but still a bit weird. I was a bit nervous leaving his eyes so blank at first, but ultimately it turned out the way I wanted it. Thank you so much for the lovely comment! Yea, they made them green in the movie apparently, too. It makes sense, but it's bizare. I do love men with green eyes tho...but nonetheless his blues are so pretty! <3333
