Goodness, that is impressive! Every time I use water color it looks like a complete mess. You have really captured some lovely variations in skin tone and shadow here. Beautiful beautiful work!

Hello there. New profile ?
Thank you so much. If it becomes a mess every time then you should work in layers. build up slowly and gradually.
For alla-prima like this, the timing is everything, so is the thickness of the color. For a controlled bleeding effect pre-wet an area and wait for a few seconds. As it is about to dry up drop in highly concentrated paints. Eventually the color will lose its intensity and you might have to throw in even more darker paints in.

Yep, decided on a fresh start.
I never considered that timing would be important in water color but that makes total sense!

Yes! It is !
I remember how my master used to do the clouds in the sky with watercolor.
You can try it yourself. Go with one color (eg: Ultramarine Blue) and prewet the paper , leave whites for clouds and charge in with loaded brush.
You can set up various setups with various timings and load of paints. Its really fun. and You will end up having some beautiful cloudy skies. β€
I know I talked too much on this. Sorry

I may try this. I have been meaning to branch out a bit, you can only learn so much focusing on one medium [digital in my case], and I haven't gone back to water color for a long time.
[Don't worry about talking too much. The long comments are often the one's worth reading!]

Yes and yes. I often go on trying oil paints for a change. I have been watercoloring for 12 years now. I have learnt ample amount about this highly misunderstood medium. Would share with the world oneday, I hope.
I can't do digital arts and neither have I got the tools needed. Would like to try it in the future (let's say when I am 40 π)
You make your fluffy β. You can ask me anything you wanna know about WC.
cheersπ»
