Hello dear and as you know I am from and I am here to provide you with the critique that you have requested. Thank you so much dear for waiting patiently and remember all critiques are subjective and I will try to be 100% honest and respectful.

Firstly, I would like to start off by saying that this piece like all others looks extraordinarily beautiful. With that said allow me to begin with the values of this piece. I really am loving the very strong contrast of colors and values that I have been seeing in your latest art pieces and this one reinforces my opinion. The shadows are beautifullllll and I cannot stress this enough. I love how she is just emerging from the pure darkness and the way the shadows just play on her features. I think you did a fantastic job rendering from. I can't stress enough how I love how she just steps into the light and how you blend the ears with the background to create a very nice and challenging to pull off fade effect. The contrast of value is just stunning!
Secondly, of course I cannot forget to tell you that you have drawn this piece beautifully as well. The bone structure is very anatomically correct and very naturalistic. She looks like a photograph almsot in the sense that her features just look so real. I will try to explain the best I can but what I mean by she looks like a photgraph is that she looks very very life like because many times when artist draw people they can look almost doll like but never with you because you capture every curve of the form that I know this is a real person and I love it. I also think it is very powerful the position of the hand and the fingers and how it leads up to the face and how you manage to lead the viewers eye throughout the piece effortlessly.
Thirdly, and only naturally I must discuss your color palatte. The warm tones contrasting the cool tones provide and reinforce the amazing contrast. I love the variety that is in your pallete in the sense that the background is not just black but I can see a varitey of cool, deep and rich greens and browns that makes the color scheme more dynamic. The red is used incredibly well because it stands out so much and adds a hint of boldness to the piece and makes for the face to be a stronger focal point. I love the soft colored shadows on her face. I also am not sure if this was done intentionally but I love the smudge edges of the skin and I think it looks amazing!
Lastly, this whole piece has a sooooo much emotion to and is very soft and deep. I honestly was suppose to finish this critique the other day but I just couldn't stop staring at this piece! I wondered to myself what is she thinking and that she seems to have worry or almost sorrow expression. Then I got caught up imaging stories about her life: did she have a lost lover, was she in a poor marriage, was she thinking about her future financially or etc. then it hit me that I adore this piece for the story it tells. But this piece achieves so much story behind it with giving the audience a few elements to work with: just her face and hands so I love the almost minimalistic aspect to this piece. Well I should really stop or else I will be typing a page but I really looooove this piece and am adding it to the feature gallery and I think it is just stunning and I hope this piece encouraged you to keep sharing your amazing art because it is just so nice to see true art

First of all, let me say a huge THANK YOU for all your wonderful words, becauseΒ I really, really, REALLY appreciate all of the things you say about me and my art, and you know it.
You can read and SEE when others don't, and it isn't a common thing nowadays.
When you said "Β it is just so nice to see true art" well, it moved me... I just had to say it.

Today I have read this critique to the model as well, and she liked everything about it and -most of all- she said you have perfectly understand what's behind her expression (she had a bit of all the things you said).

Amazing work! I thought it's a photograph! How's the paper treated?

Fabiano777 In reply to ventimocha [2015-04-24 19:32:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your nice words!
I prepare the paper by painting it all over with brown and green layers of watercolour; once it is properly dried, I draw over it with pencils.
My aim is to make the actual drawings look not like drawings but more like paintings.

I love that! I dislike color pencils because of the lack of depth. Yours looks like pastel which is lovely. Very interesting technique!

Same reason behind my hate for watercolour.
I hate its flatness in 99% of the cases, with the exception of those of Burne Jones and Rossetti

Is the background also by colored pencils, may I ask?

Fabiano777 In reply to eastday [2015-04-24 14:00:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes, of course you can ask!
The background is also made with pencils, on a light brown tone (I use to flat paint all my sheets before drawing).

That's so great! For me, I always face an issue that when drawing background, textures are hard to be covered, also hard to show depth in space.
