I love irises. I've drawn and painted them many times, and this struck me as so wonderful and realistic a composition. I like the soft variegated wash background, it's very cool and reminds me of the blurred out of focus backgrounds on good macro photography.
The stem of the center iris is not too thick. I've seen stems that thick. There is a slight detail problem in it and that's possibly because of the angle it's at -- irises have a thick green bud opening at the end of the stem that the flower springs out of, sometimes several nested ones. That structure's missing and showing even a little of it would bring the thick stem into perspective -- also when the stem's that thick there are often more buds above or below it or a withered iris below the full-blown one or shell of one that the dried petals have blown out of. It's a minor thing though, the overall painting is so spectacular and I can see two small green spaces going off to the back that suggest that leaf-shape bud is just rotated behind it -- you might've just been true to the reference in that. The big stem is fine, I like its solid texture.
The veining on the flowers and the way they're curling is so spectacular that this is utterly beautiful.

*applauds* That's awesome. I have an aunt who grows irises and used to judge competitions, they always looked so cool. Good job.

Hi thanks for your comments
See what you mean about the stem, must of been a greedy iris and eaten to much nitrogen
As for drugs mankind has always experimented with expanding his/her conciseness via the use of mind altering substances. If you do some research into most of the "great" artists, writers, musicians, they used drugs to help create and inspire "good" art. Our Western societies self created nth % of the population being sick with drug addiction is a different matter and our governments would be better of tackling the problem differently than making them illegal, loosing control and creating a black market thus crime/and negative side to drugs.

Hi
No offence taken
It was the drugs bad art good bit that made me comment
I feel most things in this world are not or good/bad but just are. It is the human intention behind/within things/actions that can then if needed be judged as good or bad.
As for being a young adult in this western world with peer pressure from friends and the media to get envolved in allsorts it takes a great deal of strength to not follow the crowd and think for onself. A free thinking individual is a very rare being these days.
Any way this site is about Art so.... Happy creating.....
